Recipe by: Good Housekeeping Peel, core and slice apples thinly. Use a food processor to slice apples, since this makes the job easier. 1/2-inch slices should be about right. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly grease sides of 9 x 13-inch baking pan. Prepare Streusel Topping: In medium bowl, mix flour, pecans, brown sugar, slightly softened butter, vanilla and cinnamon until mixture comes together. Shape into a ball. Prepare crust: Into large bowl, measure flour, sugar and salt. Cut in 1/2 cup cold butter into small bits. With fingertips, blend butter into
flour mixture until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Press evenly into bottom of baking pan. Bake crust 15 to 20 minutes our until golden. Crust may crack slightly but don't worry. Place apple slices in 10-inch skillet. Add raisins, brown sugar, cinnamon and 3 tablespoons
butter. Cook 15 minutes over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until apples are tender. In cup, mix cornstarch and lemon juice. Stir lemon juice mixture into apple slice mixture and cook until thickened. This should happen quickly. Remove from heat. Spoon apple mixture over crust. Break Streusel Topping into chunks and scatter over apple mixture. Bake 30 minutes or until streusel is browned. Cook completely, in pan, placed
on wire rack. When cold cut into 16 pieces and serve. Serves 16. 284 calories per bar, according to MasterCook. -----

Apple Crisp Bars Recipe Demonstration - Joyofbaking.com
Recipe here: Stephanie Jaworski of Joyofbaking.com demonstrates how to make Apple Crisp Bars. Apple Crisp Bars are a three layer bar that combines a buttery crisp shortbread with lightly sweetened apple slices and a crisp and crunchy streusel. Typically Apple Crisp consists of slices or chunks of apples topped with a crunchy streusel. It is normally served in a bowl topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. But when you take the components of an apple crisp and layer them on a shortbread base, it becomes a portable dessert. One that you can take to potlucks, meetings, or even to pack in a lunch box.

Ingredients:
For the crust:
2¾ cups (250g) Rolled oats
1¾ cups (220g) Flour
3/4 cup (150g) Brown sugar
1/2 cup (100g) White sugar
1 teaspoon Cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1 cup (230g) Butter, cold
For the filling:
5 apples
2 tablespoons (15g) flour
2-3 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350F (175C).
2. Make the crust: in a large bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon and salt. Add cold, cubed butter and mix with your hands until crumbly. Reserve two cups of the mixture in the fridge for a later use.
3. Press the remaining crust mixture into a baking pan (13*9 inch). Press firmly.
4. Bake the crust for 15 minutes, then set aside.
5. Make the filling: peel the apples, then thinly slice. Arrange apple slices in a row on the cooled crust.
6. Sprinkle the apples with flour, sugar and cinnamon. Then, crumble the reserved crust mixture.
7. Bake for 35 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
8. Allow to cool, then cut into bars.
Notes:
• In the video you can see I’ve arranged apple slices in one row, but after trying it, I think it’s not enough, try layering two layers or more (5 apples should be enough).
