ADELAIDE BARNES ON TRAINING WITH TEAM GB AND DELIGHT AT RECEIVING ALDI SUPPORT THROUGH SPORTSAID
The UK’s fourth-largest supermarket, Aldi, has partnered with SportsAid to support a group of the country’s most promising up-and-coming athletes. The partnership will see Aldi help to fuel a team of 20 talented young stars, who are performing at the top of their sport, as they aim to compete at future Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Through SportsAid, Aldi will provide financial support to each of the athletes, as well as quarterly workshop sessions on a range of topics to help nurture their personal development beyond sport. This will include top tips on healthy eating and performance nutrition, ensuring restful sleep, managing mental wellbeing, as well as social media and media training.
In addition, the young athletes, who stretch across 17 sporting disciplines, will be involved with the promotion of the supermarket’s ‘Get Set to Eat Fresh’ programme which aims to educate children on the importance of a healthy diet and has reached over 2.1 million young people since it launched in 2015.

TURKISH DELIGHT from Chronicles of Narnia | FICTION FOOD FRIDAY
Today for the first time, I tried making Turkish Delight from the Chronicles of Narnia. Rose is an interesting flavor. Maybe it’s an acquired taste. You tell me.
Helpful Tips:
*Oil your pizza cutter if it’s getting too sticky
*Cover the Turkish Delight in melted chocolate if you don’t like the taste of confectioner’s sugar (like me)
*You may want to serve it immediately after powdering it, as the Turkish Delight will absorb the sugar fairly quickly.

Thank you Genius Kitchen for some recipe inspiration!
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
⬞4 cups of sugar:
⬞1 ½ cups of water
⬞3 tsp fresh lemon juice
⬞1 cup cornstarch:
⬞1 tsp cream of tartar:
⬞3 cups of water
⬞1 ½ T rose water:
⬞Red food coloring:
⬞1 cup of powdered sugar mixed with ¼ cup corn starch:
⬞Square cake pan lined with foil and sprayed with non-stick spray:
⬞Food or candy thermometer (that goes up to at least 240 degrees F):
⬞Pizza cutter:
⬞Hand mixer:
STEPS:
1. In a medium saucepan, combine your sugar, 1 ½ cups of water, and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
2. Once the mixture is boiling and the sugar has dissolved, stick in your thermometer. Reduce the heat to a simmer and allow the mixture to cook until it reaches 240 degrees F.
3. While the syrup is cooking, grab a larger saucepan over medium heat and combine your 3 cups of water, cornstarch, and cream of tartar.
4. Using your hand mixer, mix until there are no “tough” spots at the bottom of the pan (beat out the oobleck!)
5. Continue mixing until the mixture boils (it will look like large bubbles popping at the surface). At this point, the mixture is thickening, so beat it continuously until it is a very thick and gooey consistency. Better to overmix than undermix! :-)
6. Once the syrup is at 240 degrees, add it to the cornstarch mixture in thirds, combining thoroughly inbetween.
7. Allow the mixture to simmer on low heat for an hour, mixing every 10 or 15 minutes. (The color should turn a bit golden as it cooks)
8. After an hour, add in your rose water and food coloring (more drops will yield a deep red, fewer drops will make it pink). Beat until combined.
9. Pour the mixture into the foil-lined pan and let it sit for at least 5 or 6 hours.
10. Dust your surface with the powdered sugar/cornstarch mixture and flip your Turkish Delight on top of it. Remove the foil.
11. Dust the top surface of the Turkish Delight with the powder mixture.
12. Use your pizza cutter to cut it into squares (5 lines on each side will give you a total of 36).
13. Take the individual pieces, swirl them around in the remaining powder mixture, and transfer them to a platter.
14. And that’s it!
Thank you guys so much for watching! Let me know if you like these (because rose-flavored candy is not a typical dessert of choice).
