How To make Basbousa Bil Laban Zabadi (Basbousa with Yogurt)
1 c Sugar
1/3 c Water
1/2 Lemon (juice only)
1/2 lb Unsalted butter
1/3 c Blanched almonds
1/2 c Yogurt
3/4 c Sugar
1 c Semolina
1 ts Baking powder
Few drops vanilla extract Whipped cream Make a thick syrup by boiling the sugar, water and lemon juice together and simmering until it thickens. Allow to cool and chill. Melt half of the unsalted butter. Toast the blanched almonds and chop them finely. Beat the yogurt with the sugar in a large mixing bowl. Add melted butter and all remaining ingredients except the cream, and beat well until thoroughly mixed. Pour into a large rectangular buttered baking tray and bake in a 400 degree oven for 30 min. Pour the cold syrup immediately over the hot basbousa as soon as it comes out of the oven. Cut into lozenge shapes and return to the oven for 3 more minutes. Basbousa Recipe with Yogurt and Coconut - Famous Middle Eastern Semolina Cake with Syrup
In this video, we show you a super delicious and oist Basbousa Recipe with Yogurt and Coconut. Basbousa is a Famous Middle Eastern Semolina cake that is drenched in a beautiful sugar syrup. It is a famous dessert in many Middle Eastern countries and it is super moist. In our Basbousa Recipe, we have added coconut and a subtle rose flavour in the sugar syrup which gives it a very aromatic and flavourful texture.
For the Basbousa Recipe with Yogurt and Coconut, you will need:
3 eggs
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1.5 cups semolina (we used coarse)
1 cup yogurt
1/2 cup desiccated coconut
1/2 cup melted butter
1/2 all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
optional: zest of a lemon
almond halves
Bake at 180c for 25-30 minutes until golden
For the Basbousa Sugar Syrup:
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp rose water

Coconut Powder - 1 Cup ( 90 g )
Almonds - As Per Requirement
Sugar Syrup -
Sugar - 1 cup ( 200 g )
Water - 1 1/4 Cup ( 300 ml )
Lime - 2 Slices or Few drops
Saffron - Pinch ( optional )

Desiccated coconut - ⅓cup (30g)
Yogurt - ½cup (125g)
Sugar - ⅓cup (65g)
Oil - ⅓cup (80ml)
Egg - 1
Vanilla essence - 1tsp (4g)
Baking powder - 1tsp (4g)
Salt - ⅛tsp
For syrup
Sugar - ¾cup (150g)
Water - 1cup (240ml)
Lemon juice - 1tsp
Pan size - 20 × 14 cm
Bake in preheated oven (170°C) for 30 - 35mins
