Cat face cupcakes – Kitty Bakes episode three
Get baking with our feline-themed cat face cupcakes!
You will need:
Butter 8oz/225g
Caster sugar 8oz/225g
Medium eggs (4)
Self raising flour 8oz/225g
To decorate:
Ready to roll icing (grey, white, pink, black)
Jam (smooth/seedless)
Water

Pumpkin and Chocolate Black Cat Cake tutorial
Today is National Cat Day! AND 2 days before Halloween - so the perfect time to share this black cat cake - with recipes for my pumpkin and chocolate cakes

I happen to have 2 black cats - so when my daughter wanted to make a cake with me celebrating National Cat day it had to be a black cat! And kinda perfect that it's 2 days before halloween too!
In this video we'll make both my pumpkin cake and my chocolate cake along with my chocolate ganache buttercream. Even better I'll teach you how I get this pure black frosting!
This cat cake is a play off the popular unicorn cakes and is super easy to make!
PUMPKIN CAKE RECIPE
1 1/2 C granulated sugar
1 7/8 C all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 lrg eggs
8 oz pumpkin puree
1/2 C Mayonnaise
1/2 C waterPreheat oven to 350
Prepare 2 seven inch round cake pans, I use parchment paper circles on the bottom and a non stick spray on the sides
Mix the dry ingredients together
mix the wet ingredients together
pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until smooth and combined
pour into two 7 inch round pans
bake 35-40 mins, until tester comes out clean
Let Cool
PERFECT CHOCOLATE CAKE
4 oz unsweetened chocolate
2 C granulated sugar
1 1/2 C all-purpose flour
3/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 C HOT water
5 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 C sour cream OR greek yogurt
1/2 C oil
2 lrg eggs slightly beaten
Preheat the oven to 350
Prepare 2 seven inch round cake pans, I use parchment paper circles on the bottom and a non stick spray on the sides
Melt the baking chocolate in double broiler (or in a bowl over a simmering pot of water) then let it cool.
In a large bowl, or bowl of a mixer add the sugar, flour, soda and salt and whisk together.
In a separate bowl (or a large glass measuring cup) mix the hot water and cocoa
Then add the sour cream and oil and whisk.
Add the wet mixture in a stream to the dry ingredients and mix until blended.
Add the lightly beaten eggs slowly while beating on low.
Add the cooled melted chocolate and mix until uniform in color.
Bake at 350 35-40 mins
CHOCOLATE GANACHE BLACK BUTTERCREAM
20 oz chocolate chopped
1 C heavy whipping cream
2 tbsp light corn syrup
2 C butter slightly softened
3-4 C powdered sugar
Black gel food dye
Place the chocolate into a large bowl
in a saucepan heat the cream - until just about to simmer
Pour it over the chocolate and let it sit for 5 mins - then stir
Let the ganache cool to room temp
Beat butter and add 2 C powdered sugar
beat in the corn syrup
add more if needed to achieve a thick buttercream
pour the ganache into the buttercream and beat.
Add the black dye until you get a dark brown
Let the frosting chill In the fridge overnight to achieve a better black
Bring the frosting out about 30-45 mins before using – beat smooth and frost cakes

Halloween Cat Cupcakes

Ingredients
125g butter
260g self-raising flour
165g caster sugar
½ teaspoon baking powder
2 eggs, lightly beaten (in a small bowl)
2 teaspoon vanilla extract
125ml milk
Method
1.Preheat oven to 160°C . Line 12 x ½-cup-capacity (125ml) muffin tins with paper cupcake cases.
2.Place the butter in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring with a spatula, until melted.
3.Place the flour, sugar and baking powder in a big bowl and, using a whisk, mix to combine. Add the melted butter, the eggs, vanilla and milk and whisk until well combined and smooth.
4.Spoon the mixture into the prepared tins. Bake for 20 minutes or until cooked when tested with a skewer. Wearing oven gloves, carefully remove the cupcakes from the oven and allow to cool in the tins for 5 minutes. Move onto wire racks to cool completely, before spreading with your favourite icing. Makes 12
Buttercream Icing
Ingredients
150g butter, soft
340g icing sugar, sifted
2 tbsp milk
Method
1. Beat butter for 5 minutes.
2. Add in icing sugar, beat until well combined.
3. Add in black food colouring.

DIY black kitty cupcakes from scratch!
Ty Pie Bakes!!!!
Today Ty Pie bakes decadent chocolate Black cat Cupcakes from scratch! (pun intended)
Ingredients:
cake:
2 cups sugar
1-3/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup HERSHEY'S Cocoa
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup strong brewed coffee(hot)
8 chocolate covered graham crackers to make ears( you can use any other cookie that can be made to resembles cat ears)
Buttercream (1/2 recipe)
1/2cup butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups confectioners sugar
1 tablespoon milk
ganache:
1 cup heavy whipping cream
3/4 cups bittersweet chocolate chips
Instructions:
cake
1. Heat oven to 350°F. line cupcake pans
2. Stir together sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt in large bowl. Add eggs, milk, oil and vanilla on separate bowl. Add dry ingredients into wet ingredients; beat on medium speed of mixer 2 minutes. Stir in boiling water (batter will be thin). Pour batter into prepared cupcake liners.
3. Bake 22 to 25 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans to wire racks. Cool completely.
Buttercream
In large bowl, cream together butter and vanilla. Mix confectioners sugar 1 cup at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in the milk and continue mixing until light and fluffy.
Ganache:
Heat the cream in a small sauce pan over medium heat. Bring just to a boil, watching very carefully because if it boils for a few seconds, it will boil out of the pot. When the cream has come to a boil, turn off and add chocolate chips, whisk until smooth.
Allow the ganache to cool slightly before dipping cup cakes.
decoration:
dip cupcakes into ganache. Before ganache on cupcake sets, add graham crackers to resemble ears. Alow ears to set on ganache. Add black food coloring to ganache. Dip cupcakes again in ganache. Add m&m's as eyes.Use a fine brush to make pupils using ganache. let ganache set. Use fine piping tip to make whiskers and mouth with buttercream. All done!
