Mexican Café de Olla
Inspired by the Mexican coffee tradition, Starbucks manager Eric Olson is bringing Café de Olla to his Starbucks® store in Santa Ana, California. He hosts tasting events and shows visitors how to make the deliciously sweet, cinnamon-infused coffee at home.

The Mexican Café de Olla is Perfect for Afternoons
Explore a world of coffee with NESCAFÉ GOLD.
Like the Americano, Cafe de Olla has its roots in the army. It was the coffee that would be served to soldiers of the revolution to
keep them full and energized throughout the day.
The original recipe includes coffee, cloves, cinnamon, and chocolate cooked in a clay pot. For purposes of this recipe, we will try
to capture the essence with NESCAFÉ GOLD, cinnamon, and brown sugar.
EQUIPMENT:
Scale
1 teaspoon
1 coffee cup
Blender or shaker
INGREDIENTS:
NESCAFÉ GOLD
Brown sugar
Powdered Cinnamon
Hot water
Powdered chocolate (optional)
DIRECTIONS:
1. Mix 1 teaspoon NESCAFÉ GOLD with 200ml hot water. Mix until smooth and free of lumps.
2. Add in 2 teaspoons of brown sugar. Again mix until smooth.
3. Add coffee mixture inside a blender, and sprinkle one fourth teaspoon of cinnamon. Proceed to blend to evenly incorporate cinnamon as it is quite light and hard to mix with just a spoon.
Want a thicker consistency? Cinnamon can be used to thicken drinks! Add half a teaspoon of cinnamon to your cup for a thicker texture! Be sure to compensate for the spice by adding another teaspoon of NESCAFÉ GOLD and another teaspoon of brown sugar. Blend for best results.
4. Optional: Sprinkle chocolate powder on top for a more indulgent finish.
How To Make Mexican Coffee - Café de Olla | RECIPE
This coffee is one of my favs for a cold day and I just want to get cozy with a big cobija.
For this recipe you will need:
1 stick of cinnamon
1 whole clove
1 whole star anise
About an oz of piloncillo
- for those of you wondering, it’s called 'panela' in other countries but essentially it's unrefined brown sugar.
You'll need Ground coffee for a cafetiere aka a French press coffee maker.
I am using about 2 ½ cups of water.
Enjoy!
