A Hungarian Dish Everyone Loves! (Chicken Paprikash)
This popular Hungarian dish is one of our favorite comfort foods!
Chicken Paprikash with Nokedli (aka Spaetzle)
Ingredients:
3 chicken breasts or other cuts
1 large onion, chopped
2.5 tbsp sweet paprika
2 small tomatoes, diced
1/4 tsp ground caraway (optional)
1 bay leaf
2 cups chicken broth or water
Salt (Optional) and pepper to taste
2/3 cup full fat sour cream or yogurt
2 tbsp flour
1/3 cup water
Nokedli/Spaetzle dumplings:
2 cups flour
3 eggs
2/3 cup water
Optional: 1/2 tsp salt
Method:
Chicken Paprikash:
Sauté the chicken and onions in oil until onions softened.
Add paprika and stir quickly until dissolved as it can burn easily.
Add tomatoes, ground caraway, brother and bay leaf. Close lid and simmer for ten minutes.
Meanwhile mix together sour cream, water and flour and add to pot with chicken paprikash.
Nokedli/Spaetzle dumplings:
Bring a pot of water to boil. Combine flour, eggs, water, and (optional) salt to get a very sticky consistency. Use a spaetzle maker or a container with a small spout and pour in the mixture into boiling water. Cook for 5-6 minutes while stirring occasionally. Drain nokedli.
Scoop some nokedli into a bowl topped with chicken paprikash. Serve with extra sour cream and a side of cucumber salad! Enjoy!! ????
