Curried Baked Beans - Part 1 #bakedbeans #curry #youtubemadeforyou #shorts
Curried Baked Beans ????
A humble can of baked beans has a ton of memories for many South Africans.
This was a dish I ate very often as a kid. My mom would use it as a topping for pizzas. My gran would make this as a Sunday breakfast side. And It would be a fasting option for school lunch.
Here is my simple take.
INGREDIENTS
- 1/2 Onion
- 2 Chillies
- 1 Sprig of curry leaves
- 1/4 Teaspoon Chilli Powder
- 1 heaped Teaspoon Kashmiri Masala
- 1 Teaspoon Crushed Garlic
- Fresh coriander
- 1 Small grated tomato
- 1 Can of baked beans
- 1 teaspoon garlic
- 1/2 Teaspoon Salt
METHOD
1. Sauté onions, chillies, and curry leaves until the onions become translucent.
2. Add the ground spices and let them cook for a couple of minutes until they're nicely braised.
3. Introduce crushed garlic and a grated tomato, allowing them to cook for a minimum of 5-7 minutes. Add a little water if it sticks to the pot.
4. Open a can of baked beans, after emptying the can, swirl some water in it to get the excess contents and add it to the pot.
5. Season with salt and let it simmer for a few more minutes until fully cooked.
6. Garnish the cooked baked beans with fresh coriander and serve it as you like.
7. Enjoy!
