If you want a delicious breakfast for Christmas morning, then this cranberry eggnog overnight French toast is the answer! Plus, it uses up any leftover non-alcoholic eggnog you may not have finished yet! You’re going to love this one!
INGREDIENTS
For the French toast: - 1 loaf of bread sliced into 1-inch cubes, about 10-12 cups - 7 large eggs - 2 3/4 cups eggnog (or 1 cup heavy cream and 1 3/4 cups whole milk) - 1/2 tsp kosher salt - 1/2 cup white granulated sugar - 2 tsp orange zest - 1 cup cranberries
For the topping: - 1 tbsp sugar - 1/2 tsp cinnamon - 1/4 tsp nutmeg
INSTRUCTIONS
- Grease a 9×13 baking dish with butter and set aside. - Add the cubed bread to the prepared baking dish and sprinkle with the fresh cranberries. - In a large bowl, whisk the eggs until they are smooth. Add the egg nog, salt, orange zest, and, sugar. Whisk to combine and pour over the prepared bread, ensuring to moisten each slice. Cover and place in the refrigerator for 8-12 hours. - If wanting to bake the same day, allow the bread to soak for 30-60 minutes. When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350°F. Stir together the sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Sprinkle over the French toast. Bake until puffed and golden brown, 45-55 minutes. - Remove from the oven and cool for 10 minutes. Serve with powdered sugar and maple syrup.
