Recently, we spent a lovely weekend in ElizabethCity, North Carolina. We have already posted videos showing the natural beauty of this harbor town along the banks of the Pasquotank River and sharing our experience at a local Bed and Breakfast. Another important factor in travel for many people is the food. We enjoy the opportunity to try new restaurants as we travel through an area. Top 5 Kitchen Tools I Can't Live Without ~ Noreen's Top 5 ~ Essential Prep Tools ~ Noreen's Kitchen
Today I wanted to share with you the top five kitchen tools I reach for every single day and cannot live without! You have seen most of these multiple times in my videos and some of you have asked so without further adieu, here we go!
The Rada Cook's Knife is my favorite knife and I use this every day. It rarely ends up getting back in the drawer because it is always being used, washed and used again. This along with the Rada knife sharpener are important in my daily kitchen work.
A fish slice or fish spatula came into my life a couple of years ago as a stocking stuffer at Christmas. How did I ever live without this? Like the Cook's Knife, this spatula is a must have in my kitchen. This one is super thin plastic, but they do make them in super think stainless steel and metal. This is the perfect tool for flipping eggs, grilled cheese, quesadillas and anything you need to turn over without breaking. The super thin edge on this fish slice helps to deal with fragile foods and keep them in tact when cooking.
The Rada Handi-Stir. In my opinion, this is the perfect whisk. I love this for beating eggs and also for mixing batters, salad dressings and anything that needs whisking. This is also a great way to sift dry ingredients when you don't want to get out the sifter. The design of this whisk with it's special shaped head covered in a metal coil is really much better than any standard whisk I have ever used.
The Swing-A-Way manual can opener is something that I grew up with and my mother still has the same one we had when I was a kid. I have two of these in my kitchen drawer. It is always sharp and always easy to use. It never skips and provides a smooth open to any can. This is especially nice for large #10 cans that can sometimes be a bit tough to open. I love that this one has a hook on it to open pop tops and you can use it to pull those pull tops on cans as well. We have two in the draw and two in reserve because old prepper habits die hard and as the old saying goes, if you have two you have one and if you have one you have none. Don't wrinkle your nose at the price because these are definitely built to last a lifetime.
Mini tongs are fantastic and we have a bunch. We reach for these every day. Nice because they have coated ends and won't scratch your non stick but are tough enough to hold up to just about anything you can use them for. I bought mine at Hobby Lobby who usually has them in different seasonal colors along with other utensils that are fun for the kitchen like silicone brushes and spatulas. I have these tongs in the traditional format as well as one designed to use as a pasta fork one with two spoon shapes on the end and another with two spatulas on each end, perfect for flipping toasted cheese sandwiches!
The bonus items are my Rada cutting mats in both sizes. I reach for these multiple times a day because I don't like to scratch up my sink board/prep area extender. The cutting mats come in small and large and are invaluable to me. The work/prep board is from Sam's club and they run about $8 each. I can also not live with out this as it lives on my sink. We don't usually use both sides of the sink on a regular basis, so this is a great way to add extra counter space to my very small kitchen.

SPRING COOK OUT! SMOKED CHICKEN & BROCCOLI CHEDDAR PASTA SALAD
Hey family!!! In today's video we're having a Spring Cook Out! Titus makes a smoked chicken and we have lots of yummy sides! Plus Hot Dogs, because what's a cook out with out hot dogs?! ????
Takeya Cold Brew Maker:
Apple Cinnamon Smoked Chicken:
Ingredients:
Whole Chicken
2-3 apples, sliced or chopped
1 lemon, sliced
cinnamon
any seasoning you want to put in the chicken, we used Blackstone All Purpose Seasoning and Salt and Pepper
Butter
Apple Juice, about 1-2 cups
Sprinkle cinnamon on chopped apples. Stuff chicken with apples and lemon. Season the chicken and put butter on the top. Pour apple juice in the bottom of the pan. Cook in smoker or grill for 2-3 hours, or until thermometer reads 165 degrees.
Broccoli Cheddar Pasta Salad:
Ingredients
12 ounces tri-colored veggie rotini pasta (1 box)
1 medium head broccoli chopped into small florets
1 medium red onion diced fine
2 cups mild cheddar cheese shredded
2 cups mayonnaise
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar NOTE: I only used 1 Tablespoon! Still good!
Instructions
Cook pasta according to package directions, with a few drops of olive oil and dashes of salt in the water to keep the pasta from sticking. Drain and rinse under cold water until cool and set aside in a large bowl.
Wash the broccoli well and chop into small florets. Chop the onion fine, and mix the broccoli and onions with the pasta. Add the cheddar cheese to the pasta mixture, mix well.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sugar, and apple cider vinegar well. Pour the mixture over the top of the pasta, broccoli and onions, and stir to combine. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Cowboy Baked Beans
Makes about 10- 12 servings.
Ingredients:
6 slices, thick cut bacon
1 (26 oz) can Ranch Style or Chili Beans
1 (28 oz) can Pork ‘n Beans
1 (7 oz.) can chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, chopped
1 medium yellow onion, chopped
1 – 1 ½ tablespoons yellow mustard
1 ½ - 2 cups light brown sugar
1/2-1 cup BBQ sauce
1. Cut the bacon into 1-inch pieces. Add to a skillet and cook over medium-high heat until about ¾ done. Set aside.
2. Using a colander, drain the juices from the beans. Add to a 12-inch Dutch oven.
3. Stir in the chipotle peppers, to taste. Stir in the onion, mustard and brown sugar and BBQ. Adjust taste, if needed.
4. Cook over coals until the mixture reaches a boil, let simmer a few additional minutes and the mixture thickens just slightly. Serve warm with a slotted spoon.
Ranch Grilled Chicken, Sourghum Beans & Rhubarb Turnovers
We're cooking on the back patio today to keep out of the rain! That won't stop us from cooking up some Kentucky Sorghum Beans in the Dutch Oven, or Salted Baked Potatoes and Ranch Grilled Chicken on the Smoker! We even have some Rhubarb Turnovers for dessert.
