How to make an easy apple pie from scratch ???? Pie art video
Here we show you how to make an easy apple pie from scratch using fresh apples. We decided to give this year's apple pie recipe video with a creative twist. We used a heart shaped cookie cutter to make a pie crust pattern. As you may know in the Scandinavian countries they use the heart shape on all kinds of things. It is especially common during Christmas to decorate using hearts. We thought using a heart shaped cookie cutter is an easy way to make a pie art. As well to celebrate the holidays.
Pie Dough Ingredients
9 ounces of butter
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1/2 a cup of powdered sugar
pinch of salt
1 egg
9 ounces of flour
4 ounces of almond flour
prepared pie plate (buttered & floured)
heart shaped cookie cutter (or any shape you like)
Dough Instructions:
Soften the butter and add powdered sugar in a large bowl.
Add vanilla extract and a pinch of salt
Mix everything in the bowl with an electric mixer
Add flour little by little. Keep mixing.
Add in almond flour and an egg. Keep mixing.
Next cover the bowl with plastic wrap. Place the bowl in the refrigerator for an hour.
Apple Filling:
6 apples (peeled and sliced)
2/3 cup of sugar
2 tablespoons of flour
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon of ginger
3 tablespoons of butter
1/4 of lemon juice
Apple Filling Instructions:
In a small bowl add to the flour sugar and the spices.
Add lemon juice from 1/4 of a lemon
Mix the ingredients and pour over the apples.
Stir everything together.
Assemble the pie:
Roll out 2/3 of the pie dough to be placed on the glass pie pan.
Next line the pie pan with the dough.
Pour apple mixture over the pie dough.
Roll out remaining dough for the hearts.
Cut heart shapes with a heart cookie cutter.
Keep making heart shapes until it covers over the apples.
Then place the heart cut-outs over the apples.
Brush the hearts with milk. Spinkle sugar over the hearts.
Preheat the oven at 375F.
Bake for about 40 to 50 minutes.
