How To make Pasta with Chunky Tomato Sauce
1 1/2 c Diced onions
1/4 c Water or olive oil
3/4 c Chopped celery
1/2 c Chopped green bell pepper
2 c Sliced fresh mushrooms
2 Garlic cloves; minced
4 c Chopped fresh tomatoes
3 c Tomato sauce
2 c Tomato puree
1 ts Dried oregano
1 1/2 ts Dried basil
1 Bay leaf
Salt and pepper; to taste 1 lb Spaghetti or other pasta
Heat the water or olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Cook the onions for 5 to 6 minutes, then add the celery, green pepper, mushrooms, and garlic and cook for an additional 5 minutes. Add the tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato puree and stir until the sauce is well blended. Add the herbs, salt, and pepper and simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes. Cook the pasta according to package directions. Remove the bay leaf from the sauce and serve with pasta. Spaghetti with tomato and basil is the best and easiest italian recipe! You’ll be surprised how simple is to cook this pasta dish, just use fresh ingredients. A delicious and fresh tasting pasta that will make your meal in no time. And with this recipe you’ll see how to cook a simple tomato sauce which you can use in a thousand different dishes adding your favorite pot herbs (basil, oregano, parsley…).
This recipe makes 4 servings
INGREDIENTS
4 tbs extra virgin olive oil
2 tbs red onion - finely sliced
3 cups tomato purée
2 pinch salt
1/2 lb spaghetti pasta
2 or 4 leaves fresh basil
STEPS
1 - In a hot saucepan pour oil and onion. Let cook until the onions are golden. Add tomato purée and salt. Cook on low for 15 or 20 minutes, until sauce thickens.
2 - While the tomato sauce is cooking, in a big pot bring to boil some salted water and cook “al dente” the spaghetti pasta. When it’s ready drain well the pasta.
3 - Season the pasta with the tomato sauce and serve your spaghetti adding on top some fresh basil leaves.
