This French toast breakfast casserole is so flavorful and a family favorite. Whenever it’s baking in the oven, the warming notes from the cinnamon lures the entire family into the kitchen. It’s the ideal way to use up leftover stale bread that you may have lying around the kitchen. Plus, it’s hands-off as you don’t have to flip the bread in the pan, making it a lot easier to feed a crowd.

This is an easy French toast recipe that has a praline flavor with chopped pecans. It's not overly sweet, but taste delicious.

Ingredients

Enough French bread to cover the bottom of a 9x13in. pan
1 Cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1/3 melted butter
2 Tablespoons maple syrup
3/4 cup chopped pecans
4 large eggs lightly beaten
1 Cup 2% reduced fat milk
2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla extract

Directions

1. Cut French bread into 1 inch slices at least 10 pieces.
2. Stir together brown sugar, melted butter and maple syrup. Spread mixture evenly onto bottom of a lightly greased oven safe 9x13in. pan or baking dish. Add pecans over sugar mixture and spread evenly to cover the bottom.
3. Beat eggs together then add milk, granulated sugar, cinnamon and vanilla extract. Put bread slices over pecans and pour egg mixture over the bread making sure to get it on all the slices. Cover and put in refrigerator for 8 hours to let the egg mixture soak into the bread.
4. Bake in a 350 degree preheated oven for 35-37 minutes or until golden brown. Enjoy

Bake at 375 degrees F for 35-45 minutes or until it is a light golden brown and your desired level of crispiness. Place on a wire cooling rack to cool for 10 minutes.
