Tuna Noodle Casserole
This tuna noodle casserole is a great recipe for any occasion. It is so easy to prepare and the ingredients are widely available. The creamy, cheesy, mushroom sauce will definitely satisfy even the most discerning tastebuds!
This recipe is comfort food at it’s best! Egg noodles combine with peas, tuna, cream of mushroom, cheese, breadcrumbs and seasoning to an instant family favorite.
INGREDIENTS
500g Egg noodles
50g unsalted butter
1/2 cup onion
4 cloves garlic
salt & pepper to taste
1 cup celery
1 cup bell pepper
2 cups whole milk
500 ml cream of mushroom
1/2 cup mayonnaise
3 cans chunk tuna
2 cups frozen peas
300g shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup panko bread crumbs
1/2 cup parmesan cheese
2 tbsp parsley
65g melted butter

Depression Era Recipe Tuna Noodle Casserole Without Soup. This is a very versatile, delicious, all natural casserole. It's quick and easy to make. Almost every ingredient in this casserole can be substituted or omitted depending on what you have available, your tastes or you allergies.
This was a very popular recipe in magazines in the 1930's and 1940's. It is one of those dishes that is sure to bring back childhood memories when you smell it cooking and when you taste it.

2- Five ounce cans of tuna
8 - Ounces of uncooked egg noodles
1 - Small onion chopped
1 - Stalk celery chopped
1/2 - Bell pepper chopped
1 - Teaspoon minced garlic
8 - Ounces of potatoes or button mushrooms sliced
1 - Cup frozen green peas
1/4 - Cup real butter

The ultimate classic comfort food. Tender egg noodles and chunks of tuna, dotted with roasted red peppers and vibrant peas, luxuriating in a scintillating, satiny, EASY homemade cream sauce that boasts garlic, onion, parsley, and paprika. INGREDIENTS
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 cup fresh bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 stalks celery, roughly chopped
- 1 tsp kosher salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tsp Italian seasoning
- 2 cups chicken stock
- 1 1/2 cups whole milk
- 3 cups pasta shells
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup Neufchâtel Cheese
- 8 oz cheddar cheese, shredded
- 2 tsp lemon zest
- 2 5-oz cans tuna, drained and flaked into pieces
- 1 1/4 cups frozen peas, thawed
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
INSTRUCTIONS
- In a 4-6 quart saucepan, melt 1 tbsp butter over medium-low heat. Add the bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese. Stir and cook the breadcrumbs until they are browned, 4-6 minutes. Once cooked, remove the crumbs from the saucepan and set them aside to cool.
- In the same saucepan, melt the remaining 2 tbsp of butter. Once melted, add the onion, celery, salt, and black pepper. Sauté until the onion turns translucent and begins to soften, 4-6 minutes. Add the garlic and Italian seasoning and stir until fragrant, 30 seconds.
- Add the chicken stock and milk. Bring the mixture to a simmer and add the pasta. Cover and simmer until the pasta is cooked al dente, 8-10 minutes.
- Once the pasta is cooked, continue to simmer and add the heavy cream, Neufchâtel cheese, and half of the cheddar cheese. Stir until the cheeses are melted and smooth, 3 minutes.
- Add the lemon zest, tuna, and peas. Stir to combine and warm the peas, 2-3 minutes. Add the remaining shredded cheese, turn the heat off, cover, and allow the cheese to melt. Once melted, add the bread crumbs, sprinkle with parsley, and serve.
