Sour Cream Coffee Cake Recipe
If you’re looking for the best sour cream coffee cake recipe on the planet, guess what? You’ve found it. This recipe is SO good that I dream about it at night.
Seriously, if you’ve never had a sour cream coffee cake, here’s why you should check it out. The sour cream in this cake gives it A LOT more flavor. It’s perfect with a cup of coffee or tea, or even as a quick snack in the afternoon.
Like, the cake itself is delicious, even by itself. Buttermilk add a little extra tang without being overpowering. And, if you don’t have sour cream, you can easily substitute plain yogurt. I personally love the combo of lemon and vanilla, so this cake has a nice fresh lemon-y flavor with warm notes of vanilla. When you pair sour cream and vanilla with lemon and buttermilk, the flavor of this cake is blasted out of the stratosphere.
The crumb of the cake is tender and satisfying, like a coffee cake ought to be. And it doesn’t have a ton of sugar, so it’s not cloyingly sweet like I’ve found a lot of other coffee cake recipes to be.
This cake comes together in like five minutes, and the vanilla-lemon glaze and toasty walnut streusel only take another five minutes each. That makes this sour cream coffee cake recipe seriously quick to throw together.
It’s great for Christmas morning, or on the weekend when you want something special without a ton of time, energy, or work. Minus baking time, it’s only 15 minutes to make.

Ingredients
Streusel
½ cup packed dark brown sugar
¼ cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp ground cinnamon
3 Tbsp unsalted butter, melted
¾ cup chopped pecans
Cake
2 cup all-purpose flour
1 Tbsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
½ tsp baking soda
¼ tsp ground allspice
½ cup unsalted butter, melted
1 ¼ cup sugar
1 ½ cup sour cream
2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
Directions
Streusel
1. Preheat the oven to 350 F and grease a 9-inch square pan.
2. For the streusel, combine the brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon and stir in the melted butter until evenly combined. Stir in the pecans and set aside.
Cake
1. For the cake, sift the flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda and allspice. In a separate bowl, whisk the melted butter, sugar, sour cream, eggs and vanilla. Stir this into the flour mixture until evenly blended. Spread half of the batter into the prepared pan and sprinkle half of the streusel on top. Use a skewer or paring knife to swirl the streusel in a bit. Top with the remaining batter, spread and then top the cake with the remaining streusel, giving the cake another little swirl.
2. Bake the cake for 45 to 55 minutes, until a tester inserted in the centre of the cake comes out clean. Cool the cake in the pan to room temperature before slicing.
3. The cake will keep, well wrapped and unrefrigerated for up to 3 days.

Recipe here: Stephanie Jaworski of Joyofbaking.com demonstrates how to make a Coffee Cake. This is your classic 'crumb' Coffee Cake recipe. It has a rich and buttery flavor and soft moist texture. But what makes this Coffee Cake so unique is the grainy crumb mixture that sits on top of the cake plus runs through its center. You can serve this cake while it's still warm from the oven, at room temperature, or even cold.
