CREAMY TACO SAUCE | Perfect for chips, tacos & chicken fingers!
#weekendatthecottage #easydeliciousrecipes #tacosauce
Pass me those chips, toss me a taco and gimme that chicken finger, ‘cause this CREAMY TACO SAUCE is mighty tasty!
This is one of those recipes that just happened because I needed something to dress up a main. The main question was HOMEMADE TACOS and this CREAMY TACO SAUCE was just the ticket. Easy to make with the perfect balance of rich, creamy and zingy, this sauce is worth its weight in gold!
Here’s why it’s a keeper:
WHAT YA GOT?
Sometimes the best moments in recipe-making happen when we find ourselves crafting something from what we have on hand. Two essential ingredients I always have at the ready are sour cream and mayonnaise.
Sour cream adds a wonderful richness to this sauce, as it did in our very popular CUCUMBER SALAD and this SOUR CREAM COFFEE CAKE. The mayonnaise provides a lovely creaminess just like it did when we blended it with cheddar, Gruyère and Parmesan in OUR BEST GRILLED CHEESE.
HERB BLURB
Although we made the sauce using parsley, feel free to experiment with other fresh herbs like dill, basil, chives, mint, tarragon or rosemary. It will create different and uniquely flavoured sauces, sure to please.
TAKE A DIP
Thankfully, the sky’s the limit when it comes to putting this delicious sauce to good use. Although served often with homemade tacos and our OVEN-BAKED NACHOS, I also like with fish sticks and crispy CHICKEN FINGERS!
Of course, this recipe adds new meaning to a favourite cottage country expression “take a dip”. I often bring it along with a colourful assortment of fresh veggies when I go to visit friends. Crudités with this sauce/dip is always well received!
Our easy-to-make CREAMY TACO SAUCE is certainly yummy!

• 2 cups salsa

3️⃣ Top the bean layer with the guacamole.
4️⃣ Top the guacamole layer with sour cream and make sure to completely cover the guacamole layer because that will help it from oxidizing and turning brown.

Ingredients:
For the Base
8 oz Cream Cheese, softened
1½ cup Sour Cream
2 tbsp Taco Seasoning
For Toppings
½ cup Iceberg Lettuce, Finely Shredded
Jalapeno, pickled and fresh (omit if it is too hot for your heat level)
¼ cup Black Olives
2 Roma Tomato, diced
½ cup Cheddar Cheese, sharp or light
Recipe Notes:
1. Softened Cream Cheese: Always soften your cream cheese before blending it with sour cream and taco seasoning. To do this, submerge the unwrapped cream cheese in warm water in a bowl for about 10-15 minutes.
2. Taco Seasoning: Opt for either freshly homemade taco seasoning or convenient store-bought packages. Both work well for this recipe.
3. Versatile Toppings: Customize with your favorite toppings beyond the basics. Options include a layer of refried beans, pico de gallo, guacamole, or other preferred veggies.
4. Cheese Choices: I used light cheddar cheese, but you can go for a sharp or a Mexican blend variety that suits your taste.
5. Heat Adjustment: The recipe uses both pickled and fresh jalapenos for a spicy kick. If it's too hot for your liking, feel free to omit or reduce the quantity.
6. Prep Ahead Convenience: This taco dip is prep-friendly. Mix the cream cheese and sour cream in advance, storing it covered in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Add the toppings when you're ready to serve.
