1 1/2 lb Beef roast, lean (or steak)
1/2 lb Mushrooms, fresh
- chopped & sliced 2 Celery stalks - centers,
- diced (may need 3) 1/4 md Green pepper, diced
3 Green onions, chopped (or 4)
1/2 lb Bean sprouts
1/4 lb Snow peas
1 lb Fresh green beans
1 sm Can bamboo shoots
1 c Water chestnuts
1 Beef boullion cube (or 2)
- in 1 cup hot water 1/4 c Soy sauce (or more)
1 md Carrot, sliced thinly
Chow mein noodles Brown rice Into a large wok, saute beef in oil until browned. Add bouillon. Add everything else except noodles and rice. Add some soy sauce. Stir well often, keeping vegetables moving from bottom to top to sides. Keep covered in between stirring. Cook the rice according to package directions. Serve when vegetables are tender and still crispy. Do NOT overcook! Vegetables should retain original colors and be crisp. Heap the meat and vegetable mixture over rice or noodles or both. No cooking oil, stir fry with water! Bacon cabbage stir-fry! 培根手撕莲白
This simple Chinese cabbage stir fry is a tradition in my family, My grandma used to make it all the time, but she used pork belly. Here I use regular bacon instead because for most of you, pork belly is hard to find. Also you can use Beef or Chicken fat for this dish.
If you are vegan, skip the bacon, just use cooking oil to stir fry the cabbage.
The Sauce:
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp Chinese vinegar
1 tsp Sugar
Pinch of Salt
1 tsp Corn starch
1 tbsp water
You also need :
The cabbage I use is a flat pumpkin-shaped cabbage (sometimes known as Taiwanese cabbage), white cabbage.
5-6 pieces of Bacon
1/2 tsp Sichuan pepper corn
6-7 Dried chili peppers

This is the most famous cabbage recipe in china. Baocai (包菜) is cabbage, Shousi (手撕) means torn by hand. This is literally just stir fry cabbage but it is so basic and popular that if you ask any Chinese, they will know about this dish, period.
????PRINTABLE RECIPE -
INGREDIENTS
- 1.4 lb (640 grams) of cabbage, torn by hand
- 1.5 tbsp of Chinese black vinegar (Amazon Link -
- 8-10 pieces of dry chilies, seeded and cut in half (Amazon Link -
- 4 cloves of garlic, sliced thinly
- 1 tsp of salt or to taste
- 2 tsp of soy sauce (Amazon Link -
- 2-3 tbsp of vegetable oil to stir fry
INSTRUCTIONS
Heat up your wok and add the vegetable oil. Toss in the cabbage along with the garlic and dried chilies. Stir over high heat for a few minutes to get some nice char. It will taste like roasted cabbage.
Add soy sauce, salt, and 1 tbsp of the Chinese black vinegar. Stir for a minute. Turn off the heat. Before serving, add the remaining black vinegar and mix thoroughly. This will stabilize the flavor Because the vinegar we add before evaporated a little bit during cooking.
