How To make Old Fashioned Corn Dogs
:
MARTHA WHITE'S SOUTHERN SAMP--------------- Vegetable oil or shortening -for deep frying 1 c Martha White Self-Rising
-Flour 2/3 c Martha White Self-Rising
-Corn Meal Mix 3/4 c Milk
1 Egg, lightly beaten
2 tb Vegetable oil
Wooden skewers (optional) 1 lb Weiners, at room temp.
Mustard and ketchup (opt.)
In large saucepan or electric fryer, heat 2 to 3 inches of oil over medium-high heat to 375. Stir together flour and corn meal in mixing bowl. Add milk, egg, and 2 tablespoons oil; stir until smooth. set batter aside for 10 minutes. Insert skewers into weiners. Dip weiners into batter. Carefully drop corn dogs into hot oil. Fry until golden brown and floating on top. Drain on paper towels. Serve hot with mustard and ketchup, if desired.

Makes 8
Ingredients
For the Batter
1 cup & 2 Tbsp all purpose flour plus more for dusting
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 Tbsp sugar
1 egg
3/4 cup cold milk
For the Cheese Corn Dogs
7 to 8 cheese sticks
1 cup panko bread crumbs
frying oil
1/3 cup sugar
Spicy ketchup (half ketchup & half sriracha)
honey mustard

Hello and welcome to Old Ways Gardening and Prepping.???? Would like to welcome you each in to the kitchen with me this evening. It's dinner time and was asked to make a large batch of homemade old fashioned corn dogs.
In my opinion homemade old fashioned corn dogs with no honey in them just tastes so much better. Remember when I was young that they weren't sickly sweet tasting and always looked forward to having them at the fair, carnival or homemade. Nowadays the only kind you can find in the store is honey sweetened or has sugar in the batter. Sorry but in my opinion nothing tastes worse than sweet cornbread or what I call corn cake.
This is my traditional cornbread recipe just thinned out a little more than usual with milk so it sticks better on the hotdogs. The recipe below is what I always use. Any leftover batter can be baked, make hush puppies or made in to hoecakes. Hope you enjoy. ????
Beef or your choice of hotdogs
For cornbread
1 1/2 cups of yellow cornmeal
3/4 cups of all purpose flour
4 tsp's of baking powder
1/2 tsp of black pepper
1 tsp of Himalayan pink salt
1/4 cup of melted butter
2 eggs beaten
1 1/4 cups of buttermilk or whole milk plus some extra Incase batter is too thick
Corn oil or peanut oil for frying
