Onion bulbs cooked in sweet and sour sauce.
SWEET AND SOUR ONIONS
Ingredients
10-12 small onions, peeled
2 tbsps oil
4-5 spring onion bulbs
1 bay leaf
1 cup tomato puree
Salt to taste
1 tsp black pepper powder
5-7 fresh parsley sprigs
1 cup castor sugar
5-7 fresh coriander sprigs
1 tbsp raisins
½ cup vinegar
Method
1. If the onions are big slit them into half without cutting through.
2. Heat oil in a non-stick pan, add onions.
3. Chop spring onion bulbs and add to the pan. Add bay leaf and mix well. Cover and cook for a couple of minutes. Remove the cover, stir the onions and cook till they are evenly brown all over.
4. Add tomato puree and 1 cup water and mix well. Cover and continue to cook for 5-7 minutes. Add salt and pepper powder and mix well. Cover and cook till the onions become soft.
5. Roughly chop parsley and add to the pan and mix well. Add castor sugar and mix well. Cover and cook for 2-3 minutes.
6. Roughly chop coriander sprigs and add and mix well. Cover and cook for 2-3 minutes.
7. Add raisins and mix well Add vinegar and mix well. Cover and cook on low heat for 20 minutes.
8. Transfer in a serving bowl and serve hot.

120g Bell Peppers
60g Red Onion
70g Pineapple Chucks (approx. 8 to 10 pieces)
Chicken Marinade:
400g Chicken Thighs (cut into 18 pieces, approx. 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch)
1 Large Egg
2 Teaspoons Chinese Cooking Wine
1 Tablespoon Light Soy Sauce
1 Teaspoon Pure Sesame Oil
2 Large Teaspoons Cornstarch (for chicken marinade)
3/4 Cup Cornstarch (to coat chicken)
Sauce:
5 Tablespoons Tomato Ketchup
5 Tablespoons Brown Sugar (can substitute with white sugar)
3 Tablespoons White Vinegar
2 Tablespoons Water
2 Teaspoons Worcestershire Sauce
1 Teaspoon MSG (optional)
2 Teaspoons Cornstarch

Today we are going to make Sweet and Sour Chicken! In Chinese, we call it Gu Lu Ji. When you make the Gu Lu series of dishes, You can make it with any protein that you like, pork, chicken, shrimp, or tofu.
Sweet and Sour Chicken Recipe:

Cook time: 20 minutes
For the chicken:
1 ½ pounds chicken breast, boneless, skinless, cut into 1 inch pieces
1/4 teaspoon salt
Pinch of white pepper
1 ½ tablespoons cornstarch slurry (1 ½ tablespoons cornstarch and 1 ½ tablespoons water)
1 large egg
1 cup cornstarch
1/2 cup water chestnut flour
1/2 cup glutinous rice flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
6 cups canola oil, for frying
For the sauce:
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
3 tablespoons ketchup
3 tablespoons sugar
1 cup chicken stock
1 tablespoon cornstarch
slurry (1 tablespoon cornstarch and 1 tablespoons water)
For the vegetables:
1 tablespoon canola oil
1/2 small onion, cubed
1/2 green bell pepper, cubed
1/2 red bell pepper, cubed
1/2 cup pineapple, cubed

Christmas is in less than one month and Sonia cooks a side dish which goes well with any dish on your holiday table: the sweet and sour onions!

Welcome to the GialloZafferano kitchen, I am Sonia. Today we'll be preparing together a very easy and tasty side dish: the sweet & sour onions.
Let's see what ingredients we'll need:
• 1 lb (500 g) of peeled small onions
• 4 tbsp (50 ml) of balsamic vinegar
• 7 tsp (30 g) of sugar • 2 tbsp (30 g) of butter
• salt
Well, let's go make our sweet & sour onions:
Melt the butter in a saucepan. Now add the sugar, and cook until slightly golden brown.
As you can see, the bottom of our saucepan is turning light brown. So, add the balsamic vinegar.
Stir and let it evaporate a bit ... after that, we'll add the onions.
Now that the balsamic vinegar has reduced a bit, add the onions.
Stir... then let it simmer with a lid on. In all, the onions should take at least 40 minutes to cook on a low flame. After half the cooking time, check if you need to add some hot water or vegetable broth.
40 min. -- low heat
After about 20-25 minutes, as you can see, the onions have dried out a bit and the liquid has thickened, so you need to add a ladle of hot water or vegetable broth, as you prefer. Then let them simmer uncovered, until the onions are cooked. The cooking time depends on the size of the onions, so remember to check them.
A few minutes before removing the onions from the heat, add some salt. As you can see, they should look quite dry.
At this point, put them in a dish... and serve together with roast meat or fish.
