Sticky Sesame Cauliflower with Vegetable Rice Pilaf! Vegan Friendly!
This Sticky Sesame Cauliflower is so good and you will be amazed that cauliflower is the main ingredient. Serve with a vegetable rice pilaf for a healthy meal that will leave you full and satisfied.
Sticky Sesame Cauliflower
Ingredients
1 head of cauliflower
1/2 cup all purpose flour (or rice flour as a gluten free option)
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
3/4 cup water
1 tbsp soy sauce
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup panko bread crumbs (optional)
Sauce
1 tbsp sesame seed oil
2 cloves of garlic
1 tbsp grated ginger
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp rice wine vinegar
1/4 cup hoisin sauce
1 tbsp ketchup
2 tbsp honey
squirt of siracha
1 tbsp cornstarch dissolved in 1 cup of water
Instructions
To make the batter for the cauliflower, mix together flour, cornstarch, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, water, and soy sauce. Place cauliflower, that has been cut into bite size pieces, into the batter making sure to coat very well. Then roll each piece of cauliflower into the bread crumbs to give some added crunch. This is optional. Bake in a 425 degree oven for 20 to 30 minutes, turning cauliflower over half way through, until golden brown.
To make the sauce, add sesame oil to a large skillet. Then add the rest of the ingredients and cook until smooth and thick. Toss the cooked cauliflower into the sauce and serve over rice.
Vegetable Rice Pilaf
Ingredients
Rice (I use 4 servings of brown rice)
1 cup chopped asparagus
1/2 cup chopped carrots
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 garlic clove minced
1 tsp salt
Instructions
Cook the rice according to the directions on the bag. Season the rice with salt. After the rice has been cooking for about 10 minutes add the carrots, onion, and garlic. Then when there is about 10 minutes left of cook time add the asparagus.
These measurements are just recommendations depending on how much rice you want to make. I made 4 servings in this video.
You can also add chopped broccoli with or instead of the asparagus, and add it at the same time you would the asparagus.
Sprinkle with sesame seeds and sliced green onion for garnish.

Sesame Fried Rice | Vegan and vegetarian-friendly fried rice uses aromatic sesame oil to flavour
Fried rice is a popular dish at Chinese and Thai restaurants, but many cuisines have their own delicious version, such as the Hispanic, Spanish, and Japanese equivalents of this tasty and easy-to-make dish. Our take on a vegan and vegetarian-friendly fried rice uses aromatic sesame oil to perfume and flavour. A few tasty vegetables and optional peas complement the rice and make a wholesome and nutritious meal that you can use as a side dish or as the base of a main meal. (Adding baked tofu to keep it vegan is an excellent choice, as is cracking a few eggs in it for a vegetarian main.) Besides rice and sesame oil, the dish includes onions, cabbage, carrots, and soy sauce. This is a quick meal to prepare and makes delicious leftovers.
Sesame oil comes from sesame seeds and is a nutty oil commonly used in many cuisines for its rich flavour. There are two varieties of this type of oil, toasted and cold-pressed. Toasted oil comes from seeds that have been subjected to heat and has a bolder flavour. It's also darker in colour and is usually used to season food before serving rather than to cook the food in. Cold-pressed is the oil obtained from raw seeds. It has a very mild taste and is commonly used for cooking, though it smokes at 350 F so it's not suitable for frying. For our rice, we recommend toasted sesame oil because it will add the intended flavour—because you're not using a lot of it you need something that's really flavourful.
This dish can be adjusted to your dietary needs and preferences. Use tamari if in need of a gluten-free substitute for soy sauce, add more veggies for volume and nutrition, or swap our suggested veggies for others like broccoli, cauliflower, kale, peppers, bean sprouts, or mushrooms.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cooking or cookery is the art, technology, science and craft of preparing food for consumption. Types of cooking depend on the skill levels and training of cooks.
Most ingredients in cooking are derived from living organisms. Vegetables, fruits, grains and nuts as well as herbs and spices come from plants, while meat, eggs and dairy products come from animals.Mushroom and the yeast used in baking are kinds of fungi.
Cooks also use water and minerals such as salt. Cooks can also use wine and spirits.
There are many methods of cooking. These include baking, roasting, frying, grilling, barbecuing, smoking, boiling, steaming and braising. A more recent innovation is microwaving. The method chosen greatly affects the end result because some foods are more appropriate to some methods than others.
Cooking can prevent many food-borne illnesses that would otherwise occur if the food is eaten raw. Food safety depends on the safe preparation, handling and storage of food.
Home cooking has traditionally been a process carried out informally in a home and can be enjoyed by all members of the family, although in many cultures women bear primary responsibility.
