French Toast. How to recipe. Easy & Delicious!
Yep this is part of the recipe that inspired the great French Toast at Mike's Place. But to be honest if we used as much butter as this recipe, Mike's Place would be called Mike's House of Butter! All good things are truly better with real salted butter! My Nana, my dads mother inspired me with her old school French Toast recipe from overseas when she grew up in Hungary! I was surprised there wasn't any Paprika added to the recipe because my Nana truly loved the Paprika like I do! I hope you all enjoy this magic as much as I enjoy making it!!!!~

FRENCH TOAST RECIPE- THE NANA WAY!!
Did I say Salted Butter? I sure did!!
Ingredients: Yield 6 to 8 pcs of French toast
3 eggs
1/2 cup Heavy cream or Half and Half
2 full tablespoons or more of Cinnamon if you are a cinnamon nut!
3 tablespoons of sugar
1 full teaspoon of Salt
1.5 teaspoons of real vanilla
Salted butter!! LOTS!!!!!!!!
Break the eggs and beat well. Then mix in heavy cream or half and half, and beat well again. Next add the vanilla, cinnamon, sugar and salt. Beat again so it is all one happy batter.
Heat your sauté pan or Cast Iron pan which I truly believe in the magic of the cast Iron pan. NOTE: I use a liberal amount of non stick spray on side of pan the help when cleaning the pan. After the no stick spray i add a very ample amount of real salted butter. My Nana was Hungarian and there was nothing about skimping with the salted butter. She added so much she was almost frying the French toast in butter. When butter is melted and do not burn it, batter your bread, I batter it once on 1 side and once on the other, just don’t let it sit in the batter and continue to soak it all up.
Carefully add to heated pan and cook one side till it starts to brown, then flip over and finish cooking the other side. If you are low on butter add more! This recipe is truly a celebration of butters true goodness. Please don’t tell your doctor!!
When French toast is done put on a favorite plate, top with powdered sugar which completes this and serve with warm local syrup and guess what!! Yes spread some more butter and watch it melt so beautifully!! Enjoy this old style breakfast as I have done for years!!!
Peace, Love and French toast! Remember all roads lead to Mike’s Place in good ole Kent, Ohio!!

If you love cinnamon, apples and french toast then this recipe is for you! Now you can turn regular french toast into something special. Cooking the apples only takes a few minutes while they soften in a delicious sauce that has hints of cinnamon and caramel. For the french toast itself, we use sourdough french bread which contrasts beautifully with the sweetened sauce. It’s truly delicious!
Ingredients for 2 servings
2 large or 3 medium eggs
1 Tbsp. butter, grass fed
¼ cup whole, or lofat milk
¼ cup coconut sugar
⅓ cup water
1 tsp. Ceylon cinnamon
2 tsp. Vanilla extract, divided
4 slices of bread, I used sourdough french bread
2 tsp. Butter, grass fed
Directions:
Slice the apples and remove the core. Cut the apples into small bite-size pieces leaving the skin on. Place the water and coconut sugar in a medium frying pan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar has dissolved then add the apples and bring to a low boil. Add the cinnamon and simmer the apples for between 7 and 10 minutes or until they are soft. Add the milk to the pan after they have cooked for 5 minutes and stir. Continue simmering until soft. Then keep warm.
Preheat a frying pan over medium heat and add 2 tsp. Butter to the pan. Crack your eggs into a bowl, add a teaspoon of vanilla and whisk to combine. Once the butter has melted and is bubbly, place a slice of bread into the egg mixture and then turn the bread over making sure all the bread is coated in egg. Place the egg coated bread into the frying pan and repeat this process with another slice of bread until your pan is reasonably full. Leave room to flip them over!
Cook until the french toast is a golden brown. You may have to raise or lower the heat to get them cooking just right. It should take 2 to 4 minutes per side to cook. Place the french bread on a warmed plate and top with the warm apple topping and don’t forget to add the sauce too! Enjoy!
Thanks for watching and sharing!
