Grandma Mable's Maple Glazed Oatmeal Cookies
From a tiny farm in North Dakota, my Great Grandma Mable used to whip up batches of these cookies for her three boys...well, a plainer version without the icing, but they are just perfection in my opinion! Chewy, brown sugary, buttery, mapley and with a hint of salt...Oh My Lanta! SO GOOD! Thanks to my Dad's sweet cousin, Patricia, I was fortunate enough to get this secret family recipe. Here's what you need to know...
GRANDMA MABLE'S MAPLE GLAZED OATMEAL COOKIES -- Makes 32
1/2 cup real cream
2 cups butter - softened
2 cups brown sugar - packed lightly
2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
4 cups oats (I like old-fashioned oats)
4 cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
Cream butter, brown sugar, salt and vanilla. Add cream and mix well. Add flour, soda and oats. Mix well and refrigerate. Scoop even sized balls out and flatten each ball a bit before baking. Bake at 350 for about 13-14 minutes, until golden brown. Let cool on the baking sheet for about 10 minutes and then transfer to a cooling rack.
Glaze/frost the cookies while they're still a bit warm. This will help the glaze to spread out and even drizzle down the edges a little. Let the glaze set up before storing away.
MAPLE GLAZE --
3 cups powdered sugar
1/2 cup real maple syrup (you may use less...it's more about consistency)
1 T maple extract
3-4 T cream
The key with this frosting/glaze is to hold back a little of the liquids so it doesn't get too runny. Start with a little less than the 1/2 cup of maple syrup and 2-3 T of the cream. Mix thoroughly and if it's too thick, add a little more of both. You want the mixture to be spreadable but not runny.
ENJOY!!!!!
