Trying to eat only edibles for the whole day! #shorts #munchies
Found this in a recipe book (an old school fundraising recipe book compilation) the author of the recipe is listed as Lauren White. My mom used to make this recipe when were were kids too.
1 cup corn syrup (light or dark) 1 cup peanut butter (smooth or chunky) 1 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa 2 cups corn flakes cereal 2 cups Rice Krispies cereal (puffed rice cereal) 1 cup crushed peanuts
Mix corn syrup, peanut butter, sugar and cocoa in a large saucepan over low heat. Mix over the low heat for about 5 minutes until well combined and melted (texture will change to become smoother and thinner). Remove from heat and mix in crushed peanuts and the two cereals.
Turn out onto a greased jelly roll pan or greased 9x13 baking dish. Spread out and pat down using buttered fingers or spatula. Let stand in fridge until firm an cut into small squares. Can be stored at room temperature between layers of waxed paper. If you keep them in the fridge, take them out a few minutes before serving so they soften a bit. This freezes well.
Substitutes: Corn syrup = golden syrup = karo syrup= liquid glucose = honey Peanut butter? This is a peanut toffee chew, I don't see the point of making it without the peanuts. If you do the flavour will be completely different. Kind of like making a peanut butter cookie without the peanut butter. Cereal = use the kind you want, but flavoured cereal will affect the final taste. If you leave the cereal out it may be a bit softer.
