How To make Pennsylvania Dutch Cake
Pennsylvania Dutch Chocolate 1/4 pound butter
4 squares semisweet chocolate
1 cup boiling water
3/4 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Cream Cheese Frosting 1 8 oz cream cheese -- softened
3 tablespoons butter
1 box 10X sugar (powdered sugar)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Tbsps milk
For the Chocolate: Combine and boil until thick the butter, chocolate and boiling water. Stirring constantly. Set aside and allow to cool while you mix the other ingredients. In a cup combine the buttermilk and baking soda, set aside. Stir together flour, sugar and salt. Make a well in the center and add chocolate. Mix well and then add the eggs. When the eggs are blended completely then add the buttermilk. Add vanilla last. Grease and flour pans - you can use 2, 9" cake pans or one 9x12" pan. Bake in a 350F oven 25-30 minutes for 9" pans or 40 minutes for the 9x12" pan. For the Frosting: Cream butter and cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar. Add vanilla. Add milk as needed to make the frosting spreadable and smooth.

1932 General Electric Dutch Apple Cake Recipe - Old Cookbook Show
1932 General Electric Dutch Apple Cake. What makes a Dutch Apple Cake Recipe Dutch? Who knows? Anyway; this simple cake recipe comes from the depths of the great depression cooking, but it comes from an extravagant depression era cookbook. This apple cake recipe was part of a GE refrigerator promo cookbook from 1932.
Ingredients:
4 Tablespoons butter
⅔ cup sugar
2 eggs
2 ¼ cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
¾ cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
For topping:
1 pared and thinly sliced apple
1 Tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 Tablespoon butter
Method:
Preheat a moderate oven (350ºF).
Cream the butter, add sugar gradually.
Add beaten eggs and mix well.
Mix and sift flour, baking powder, and salt and add alternately with the milk to the first mixture.
Add vanilla and beat lightly.
Pour into greased 8”x8” pan and arrange thinly sliced apples on top of batter.
Bake about forty to forty five minutes.

PA Dutch Funnel Cakes in Jo Ellens Kitchen 3 8 23
Lebanon PA, March 8, 2023: PA Dutch Funnel Cake in Jo Ellen’s Kitchen
Ingredients:
• ¼ cup sugar
• 1 egg
• 1 ¼ cups flour
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• ¼ teaspoon salt
• 2/3 cup milk
• Corn oil, or your favorite oil
• Confectioners’ sugar
Directions:
• Pour ½” of oil into bottom of a frying pan, and heat to 375 degrees while mixing ingredients.
• Beat sugar and egg together.
• Pour into flour.
• Add salt and baking powder.
• Stir in milk, and whisk until smooth. (If needed, add more milk until a pouring consistency.)
• Using a funnel with about a 3/8” exit hole, place finger on the bottom while pouring batter into the funnel.
• Hold funnel over center of hot oil. Move funnel in an outward circular motion to form a spiral cake. Stop about ½” from the outside “wall” of your frying pan, and cover funnel hole with finger to stop the flow of batter.
• Return funnel to mixing bowl until the first funnel cake is finished.
• Fry the funnel cake until it floats, is lightly brown and fluffy. Turn once.
• Remove funnel cake using a slotted spoon to allow oil to escape.
• Place funnel cake unto a paper plate to drain off excess oil.
• Sprinkle with confectioners’ sugar or other favorite topping.
• Enjoy.
• Yields approximately 6 large funnel cakes.
