This Brussels Sprouts Recipe is Oven Roasted with an Asian Fusion. That's why it's called Sweet and Sour Brussels Sprouts. In my opinion these are better served cold. They are oven roasted and designed to be served hot, but if you have any leftovers and you go back to that refrigerator the next day, DON'T REHEAT THEM. You're going to love they way they taste cold, like a cold vegetable salad. Also be sure to check out my Green Bean Casserole and my Croissant Stuffing video in the links below.

6 tbsp heavy cream
Instructions:

Bacon Brussel Sprouts
1/3 lb bacon, cut into small pieces
bacon grease, reserved
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
4 cups brussel sprouts, trimmed and chopped
2 garlic cloves, peeled and minced
salt and pepper
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/8 cup water
1 tbsp butter (optional)
Freeze bacon for 15 minutes before cutting. Cut into small pieces and place in cold pan over medium heat to crisp up.
Meanwhile, prep your brussel sprouts. Make sure to peel any discolored leaves off the outside and trim off the stems. Then chop into thin strips.
Peel and mince your garlic.
Keep an eye on your bacon and when done remove from the pan and set to the side.
Reserve 3/4 of your bacon grease (totally to your preference) and add EVOO to pan. Add brussel sprouts, garlic, salt, pepper, garlic powder and saute for 3-4 minutes. Add 1/8 cup water to deglaze pan and stir up the brown bits on the bottom of the pan.
Cook for 8-10 mintues over medium low heat and then turn off heat. Stir in half the bacon. Add 1 tbsp butter for extra decadence.
Serve up and sprinkle with remaining bacon.
Enjoy!

Copycat Sweet and Sour Brussels Sprouts
RECIPE COURTESY OF SUNNY ANDERSON
Level: Easy
Total: 1 hr 20 min
Active: 35 min
Yield: 4 servings
Ingredients
Sauce:
1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
1/3 cup honey
1 tablespoon chopped fresh rosemary
1/4 teaspoon hickory-scented liquid smoke
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
Veggies:
Vegetable oil, to coat the pan
2 pounds Brussels sprouts, some halved, some quartered and falling leaves retained
Kosher salt
1 medium red onion, roughly chopped
1/4 cup pepitas, toasted in a dry pan
1/4 cup dried cherries or cranberries
Directions
Make the sauce. In a saucepan with straight sides on medium heat, add the balsamic vinegar, honey, rosemary, liquid smoke, a pinch of salt and a hefty grind of black pepper. Stir and cook on medium-low until it reduces and thickens into a sauce, about 20 minutes.
Saute the veggies. In your largest pan on medium-high heat, add the oil and the Brussels, minus the reserved stray leaves. Cook the Brussels until they are a deep golden to dark caramelized color on most of the surface, 15 to 20 minutes. Season with salt and add the onions to the pan. Toss to cook, wilt and caramelize, keeping the pan hot, until the onions are lightly browned, 10 to 15 minutes. Add the reserved leaves and cook, tossing, until they become golden as well.
Finish and serve. Add the pepitas and dried cherries to the pan and toss everything to combine and warm. Add the sauce and toss again. Season the pan with salt and serve.
