How To make Sweet Sour Meatballs Oriental
1 cn (20 oz) pineapple chunks
Packed in juice 1 lb Lean ground beef
1 lg Egg
1 c Fresh bread crumbs, about
2 slices bread
3/4 ts Salt
1/2 ts Ground ginger
2 tb Vegetable oil
3 md Scallions, cut into 1"
Pieces,about 3/4 cups 1 cl Garlic, crushed
2 ts Cornstarch
2 tb Cider vinegar
1 tb Light brown sugar, firmly
Packed 1/4 ts Ground red cayenne pepper
4 oz Fresh Chinese pea pods OR
6 oz Frozen pea pods, thawed
Drain pineapple well,reserving 3/4 cup juice;set aside.In a large bowl,combine beef,egg,bread crumbs,salt and ginger;using hands or wooden spoon,blend well.Shape mixture into 1 1/4" balls.In 12" skillet over medium-high heat,heat oil;add meatballs;cook about 12 minutes, turning frequently until well browned on all sides.Using slotted spoon, remove to plate.To drippings in skillet,add scallions and garlic;cook, still over medium-high heat,about 5 minutes,stirring frequently until tender-crisp.In small bowl,stir reserved pineapple juice into cornstarch until blended and smooth;add to skillet along with vinegar,sugar and ground red pepper.Increase heat to high;bring to a boil,stirring.Boil 1 minute.Return meatballs to skillet along with pineapple chunks and pea pods;cook 3 to 5 minutes longer until heated through and pea pods are crisp-tender.Makes 4 servings.

1/2 kilogram pork, chopped into bite-size pieces
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
4 tablespoons water
Oil, for deep frying
Set B (Sauce):
1/2 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/4 cup vinegar
4 tablespoons banana catsup
2 tablespoons soy sauce
Juice of canned pineapple chunks
Set C (Veggies):
1 piece white onion, diced
1/2 piece carrot, cut into florets
1/2 piece green bell pepper, chopped
1/2 piece red bell pepper, chopped
1 small can pineapple chunks (227 grams)

This dish has a sweet, sour and tangy taste. It goes very well with plain white rice or any Chinese fried rice. The recipe shared above has a Malaysian touch. These sweet sour chicken balls can be found in Malaysia and Singapore Chinese restaurants. Adding capsicums, pineapples and onions gives the dish rich flavor and elevates the taste to the next level. This dish will be a big hit among children.
- Serves for 5 to 6 people
Sweet and Sour Chicken Balls
- To marinate chicken:
- 800 gm Minced Chicken
- 1 tsp White Pepper Powder
- 1 tsp Sesame Oil
- ⅛ tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Light Soya Sauce
- 1 tsp Fish Sauce
- 1 tsp Oyster Sauce
- 2 tbsp Cornflour
For the sauce:
- ½ cup Tomato Sauce
- ⅓ cup Chilli Sauce
- 1 tbsp Oyster Sauce
- ⅛ cup Vinegar
- 1 tsp Chilli Powder
- 1 cup Water
Other ingredients:
-1 cup Cucumber Cubes
- 1 cup Red Capsicum Cubes
- 1 cup Pineapple Cubes
- 1 Big Onion Cubes
- 2 inches Ginger
- 1 Tbsp Oil
