How To make Maraschino Hearts
1/4 c Shortening
2 tb Butter
1/2 c Sugar
1 Egg
1 1/3 c Flour
1/2 ts Baking powder
3/4 ts Salt
1/2 c Chocolate chips
24 Maraschino cherries; drained
Recipe by: Tampa Bay Online Cream shortening, butter and sugar, beat in egg. Combine flour, baking powder and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture; mix well. Wrap in waxed paper and refrigerate about 2 hours. Roll dough to 3/8-inch thickness; cut with 2 1/2-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Push in center with thumb; place about six chocolate chips in center of each thumbprint. Bake at 376 F. 6 to 8 minutes or until baked. Transfer to cooling rack; press one maraschino into melted chocolate thumbprint. Cool until chocolate is set. Makes 18 to 24 cookies. -----

PREPARATION
1. Soak maraschino cherries in cherry vodka for an hour or so.
2. Gently dry base of cherries on paper towel before dipping in melted white chocolate.
3. Cover chocolate with sprinkles. Enjoy!

These chewy almond cookies are rolled in chopped pecans and topped with a cherry for a festive finish! My Mom found this Cherry Pecan Cookie recipe in an old Christmas Cookie cookbook in the 80's and they have been my favorite holiday cookie every since!

Today we are baking! I love to make cupcakes and this is a new recipe I decided to try. I had the idea a few days ago to try a maraschino cherry cupcake, so I took my basic cupcake recipe and tinkered with it to make these! They are really good! Sweet and the cherry adds a little tartness!

Recipe:
1 Betty Crocker French Vanilla cake mix
1 cup milk
1 stick of butter
4 eggs
Cherry juice to taste
Frosting:
1/2 stick of butter
8oz cream cheese
3-4 cups powdered sugar
Cherry juice to taste
