Spritz Cookies (Classic Version) - Joyofbaking.com
Recipe here: Stephanie Jaworski of Joyofbaking.com demonstrates how to make Spritz Cookies. Spritz Cookies, also known as Swedish Butter Cookies or Pressed Butter Cookies, are a very popular Christmas cookie, not only in Scandinavia, but also here in North America. They have a lovely sweet and buttery vanilla flavor with a texture that is tender crisp. As their name implies, Spritz is German for spritzen meaning to squirt, which is exactly what is done with this cookie dough. By that I mean we make these cookies using a cookie press (gun).

Cream Cheese Spritz
Cream Cheese Spritz
Note: Recipe from OrganizedJen's Grandma
Makes about 7 dozen cookies
2 ½ cups All Purpose Flour
½ teaspoon Salt
¼ teaspoon Cinnamon
1 cup Unsalted Butter, room temperature
3 oz Cream Cheese, room temperature
1 cup Sugar
1 Egg Yolk, unbeaten
1 teaspoon Vanilla
Assorted Toppings
(sprinkles, sanding sugar, etc.)
Preheat oven to 350 with two racks positioned in the center.
Whisk together flour, salt and cinnamon and set aside. Cream together thoroughly the butter and cream cheese using an electric mixer on medium speed. Gradually beat in sugar until fluffy. Add the egg yolk and vanilla and mix on medium speed until incorporated. Add the sifted dry ingredients a little at a time, mixing after each addition on low, until well blended.
Fill the cookie press chamber with dough. Place the desired forming plate in the cookie press and close tightly. Mold dough onto slightly greased cookie sheets. Decorate the shaped cookies with sprinkles.
Bake until light brown, 8 to 10 minutes, rotating the sheets halfway through. Allow the cookies to cool on the sheets for 5 minutes before moving to cooling racks. Once completely cool, store the cookies in an airtight container.

How to Make Spritz Cookies
When it comes to holiday cookies, it doesn’t get much better than this buttery spritz cookie recipe! While most versions of this classic cookie only use vanilla extract, our recipe takes it to the next level with the addition of almond extract for a double dose of flavor. These crisp cookies are great on their own, topped with sprinkles or dipped in chocolate.
