How To make Apple Pie with Cheddar Cheese Crust
FILLING:
1 1/2 c Sugar
1/4 c Cornstarch
2/3 c Apple juice
2/3 c Port wine
2 tb Butter; or margarine
1 Lemon peel; grated
8 md Cooking apples; peeled and
-sliced (abt 7 - 8 cups)
CHEDDAR CRUST:
2 c Flour; sifted
1 ts Salt
2/3 c Shortening
3/4 c Sharp cheddar cheese
-shredded 5 1/2 tb Water
For the filling, combine sugar and cornstarch in lg saucepan. Stir in apple juice, port, butter and lemon peel. Cook over medium heat until mixture boils. Add apples and cook gently until barely tender. To make Cheddar Cheese crust, mix flour, salt and shortening with pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Stir in cheese. Add water gradually and mix lightly with fork to form dough. Divide pastry in halves and roll out one half to fit 9-in. pie pan. Roll second half of pastry and cut into 10 (1/2 in.) strips. Spoon filling into pastry-lined pan. Weave pastry strips across filling to make lattice top. Bake at 375 deg. 30 to 45 min. or until done. Serve warm. -----

Cheddar crust Apple Pie makes a perfect Thanksgiving savory & sweet dessert. Cheese and Apples are a match made in heaven and this combination of savory and sweet, make for a delicious and unique pie.

Here are the ingredients and steps to make this recipe!
Pie Dough
10 oz, 284 gms sifted all purpose flour
4 oz, 113 gms grated butter
120 ml ice cold water
1 cup grated cheese
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
Filling
4 – 5 apples (900 gms peeled and sliced)
1 tbsp brown suger
55gms, 2 oz, 1/2 stick butter
2 tbsps Cornstarch
Juice of a Lemon
¼ cup crushed Walnuts
Egg Wash
Add the flour, baking powder and salt
first followed by the butter and mix everything together till the flour is crumbly
Add the cheese
Add the water all at once and knead
Cover and chill in the fridge for 30 mins
Heat the butter and sugar together and cool
Peel, core and slice the apples and pour the cooled butter mixture, cornstarch, lemon juice and walnuts and mix
Divide the dough into two portions, one slightly larger and roll it out till it’s about .5mm thick
Butter your pie plate, and add the bottom of the pie crust and score it.
Re roll the rest of the dough and cut leaf shapes out of it
Pour in the apples
Add the leaves over the apples and pinch them to connect and brush with beaten egg
Bake in a 350 degree oven for 60 minutes

Ingredients crust
- 150g flour
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2g salt
- 120g cold butter (unsalted)
- 4 tbsp ice-cold water
Ingredients topping
- 100g brown sugar
- 100g flour
- pinch ground nutmeg
- pinch salt
- 90g melted butter (unsalted)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Ingredients filling
- 10 granny smith apples, peeled and sliced
- 20g melted butter (unsalted)
- juice of a lemon
- 100g sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Method
1. For the crust, add the flour, sugar, salt and ice-cold cubed butter to the food processor
2. Pulse the blade until you have reached a sandy consistency, then slowly add 1 tbsp of ice-cold water at a time until the dough comes together.
3. Remove and cover with cling film and rest in the fridge for at least 1 hour.
4. Take a 20cm springform cake tin and grease it lightly, remove the dough from the fridge and roll it out big enough to fill the tin.
5. Once you have lined your tin, place baking paper and pie weights into the pastry-lined tin and then into the freezer for 15 minutes before you bake at 190°c for 15 minutes.
6. Remove from the oven and take out the pie weights then turn the oven down to 180°c and bake for another 15 minutes, then let the pie crust cool completely.
7. For the topping, simply add all your dry ingredients to a stand mixer on medium speed. Slowly pour the melted butter in, when it starts to clump into small pebbles it's ready.
8. Take the sliced apples and mix them with the butter, lemon juice, sugar and cinnamon.
9. Add the mixed apples to the baked pie crust, you want the apples to come all the way to the top, maybe slightly more.
10. Sprinkle over the topping and bake at 180°c for 45 minutes.
11. Let it cool for at least an hour before you try and slice.

2 1/2 cups AP flour
1 tea sugar
1/2 tea salt
14 TBS cold butter
1 1/2 cups grated cheddar cheese
1/2 cup ice water
Pie Filling:
2 TBS Hot Pepper Jelly
6 Cups apples thinly sliced
2 tea hot pepper jelly
3/4 cups sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
2 TBS flour
3/4 tea cinnamon
