Roman Cookery School session 5 Patinae
Session 5 of the Roman Cookery School features two recipes for what the Romans called patinae – vegetables, fish or fruit with herbs, spices and other flavourings, often pureed and presented in a shallow dish, usually set with egg.
Egg and Bean Salad - Recipe Circa 1973
Egg and Bean Salad is an unexpected and wonderful delight with complex flavors that make a great compliment to any lunch, dinner or picnic. This vintage recipe should definitely make its way out of the dusty old cookbook shelf and back to the modern table.
Full Written Recipe
Egg & Bean Salad
1 16-ounce can barbecue beans, drained
6 hard-cooked eggs, coarsely chopped
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 tablespoon mayonnaise or salad dressing
1 teaspoon prepared mustard
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
3 slices bacon, crisp-cooked and crumbled
Combine beans, eggs, and onion. Chill.
Blend together salad dressing, mustard, salt, and pepper.
Add to egg mixture and toss.
Spoon into lettuce-lined salad bowl.
Sprinkle crumbled bacon over top.
Makes 6 to 8 servings.

Kirtlington Quarry in Oxfordshire, UK was owned by the Portland Cement Company who operated a busy quarry and cement works on this site between 1907 and 1928, with finished goods being taken up the Oxford Canal to markets in the Midlands.
Quarrying the limestone and clay beds has exposed rocks around 160 million years old and has unearthed large numbers of fossils including marine shells, mammals teeth, bones and some land plants.

Lunch with the Ladies: Easy Calico Bean Soup, Tossed Salad, and Chocolate Avocado Pudding
EASY CALICO BEAN SOUP BY MONKEY AND ME KITCHEN ADVENTURES
CHOCOLATE-AVOCADO PUDDING BY KIM CAMPBELL IN THE PLANTPURE NATION COOKBOOK
Ingredients:
2 medjool dates, pitted
2 fresh avocados, pitted and peeled
½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
¼ cup agave nectar
½ cup nondairy milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Pinch of sea salt
Directions:
1. Place the dates in a bowl with warm water to cover and let sit for 15 minutes to soften. Drain
2. Place all the ingredients in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth.
3. Divide among 4 bowls and serve
4. Top with fresh fruit of your choice.

Again am back with yet another easy and tasty pudding recipe. This is a popular labanese dessert throughout middle East. Layali Lubnan is a labenese pudding made of semolina and milk which is the base layer for this pudding and is topped with sweet cream cheese layer too. A melt in mouth yummy pudding , i must say that. This aromatic semolina pudding is very easy to make and is a very refreshing sweet treat. This pudding has a rich texture and is so soft and melt in mouth dessert. The base or bottom layer is the original semolina pudding. It is topped with either whipping cream layer or cream cheese layer . You can set this pudding in cups or bowls but I ser this pudding in a spring form pan .This dish Layali Lubnan means lebanese nights in Arabic.

Cornflour - 2 tbsp
Vanilla essence - half tsp
Syrup
Sugar - half a cup
Water -one cup
Lemon juice - 1 tsp
