East India Cocktail Recipe - BRANDY, MARASCHINO LIQUEUR...MMMM..
View full recipe:
The East India is a brandy-forward, boozy concoction. With only a few modifiers in small measures, this one packs a punch. Note that this particular recipe isn't the original version of the East India cocktail that was published in 1882 but rather a subsequent version that was released 18 years later in the year 1900. The original version was raspberry syrup instead of pineapple syrup and Bokers bitters instead of Angostura. Read the first comment on the video for a little more info regarding the recipe, syrups used and shaken/stirring.

Summary:
They're Not Made The Old Fashioned Way:
Today, maraschino cherries are typically bleached in a mixture that contains sulfur dioxide and calcium chloride which makes them lose their original colour. They turn into a sort of yellow-ish, which isn’t really the most appetizing colour for a cherry. To make it look like the typical cherry you see on top of ice cream, they then soak the bleached cherries in Red Dye #4 and high fructose corn syrup for a few weeks to a month.
Their Nutritional Value Decreases:
Maraschino cherries can have up to 3 times the amount of sugar than regular cherries. They also contain much less protein than regular cherries.
The Potential Dangers of Artificial Colours:
Previously Red 3 was the dye used to make these cherries, but
it has been flagges as a potentially dangerous product to our health and now Red 40 is used, which seems to be okay in small amounts.
There Are Reasons To Avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup:
It has been linked to diseases like diabetes, obestity and even heart disease.
They Lose Their Antioxidants:
Once these cherries go through the processing phase, they lose most of their antioxidants and therefore many of their health benefits.
They Can Increase Your Risk Of Bladder Cancer:
According to PUBMED this dye contains small amounts of a carcinogen called benzidine. Studies have shown being exposed to benzidine can increase your risk of bladder cancer.
Too Much Sugar:
These contain twice the amount of sugar as regular cherries.
Here's a list of the most popular places these are found:

2. Chocolate Covered Cherries
3. Fruit Salad
4. Virgin Cocktails
