How To make Midwest Apple Crunch Pie
KEVIN WILSON (MHDT47A) 1 9" single pie crust*
2 tb Granola; finely crushed*
3 c Apples; cored, pared, sliced
1/2 c Margarine; divided
2 Eggs
14 oz Eagle sweetened conden. milk
1 ts Maple flavoing
1 1/4 ts Cinnamon
1/8 ts Nutmeg
1/2 c Brown sugar; firmly packed
1/2 c Flour
1/4 c Granola; finely crushed
*If making own crust, add the 2 T of finely crushed granola to the flour before rolling out. Heat oven to 425 degrees For filling: Arrange apples in unbaked pie shell. Melt 1/4 c margarine. Beat eggs in medium bowl. Add sweetened condensed milk, melted margarine, maple flavor, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix well. Pour over apples. For topping: Combine sugar and flour in medium bowl. Cut in remaining margarine until crumbly. Stir in granola. Sprinkle over custard. Bake at 425 degrees for 10 minutes. Reduce oven temp to 375 degrees. Bake at 375 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes or until golden brown. (Cover top or edge of pie with foil, if necessary to prevent overbrowning). Serve warem, at room tem or chilled. Dough:
2½ cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 ¾ sticks chilled plant-based butter, cut into pieces
1 1/4 cups Sheese cheddar cheese, grated
¼ cup chilled water
(1 Tbsp coarse sugar to top)
Filling:
8 granny smith apples
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon grated lemon zest
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon allspice
¼ teaspoon ground cloves
1 tablespoon cornstarch
Cheese Sauce
1/2 cup Sheese Red Leicester
3/4 cup non-dairy milk
vegan ice cream & pecans
Baked 400F 25 minutes
350F additional 30 minutes, tent if needed
