~Baking Day - Sourdough Chocolate Chip Cookies!~
I needed to use up some of my sourdough starter, had two bags of Ghirardelli baking chips, so decided to bake cookies! The recipe is from Alaskan Sourdough Cooking, a book I bought while in Anchorage. Hope you try it!
In a large bowl, combine 1 cup butter, 1 cup shortening, 1-1/2 cups sugar, 1-1/4 cups brown sugar and mix well. Add 4 eggs and beat until well blended. Add 2 tsp. vanilla and 1 cup sourdough starter. Beat in 4-1/2 cups flour, 2 tsp. baking soda, 1 tsp. salt and mix well. Stir in 24 oz. chocolate chips (I used two bags of Ghirardelli milk chocolate baking chips). Drop by spoonful onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes. My own note: This made a huge amount of cookies (over 8 dozen). You could easily halve the recipe.
