Ingredients:
For the dry ingredients:
2 & 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup granulated sugar
For the bottom vanilla cake layer:
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cubed * see notes
2 large eggs, at room temperature
1/2 cup milk, at room temperature
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
For the center apple layer:
2 cups finely diced apples about 4 medium sized apples
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
For the crumb topping:
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
4 to 6 tablespoons cool water
Instructions:
Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish and dust with flour (or line with parchment paper). Set aside. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Whisk to combine. Divide the dry ingredients in half and set aside one half for later (about 1 and 3/4 cups for each portion).
Make the cake layer: In a large bowl, combine half of your dry ingredients (about 1 and 3/4 cups) and the butter. Cut the butter into the dry ingredients until your get a mixture that resembles fine breadcrumbs.
Add the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract to the bowl. Whisk together until the batter just comes together. Take care not to over mix! Some lumps are fine. Pour the cake batter into the prepared baking dish. Spread into an even layer, and set aside.
Make the apple layer: In a medium bowl, combine apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Stir together until the apples are fully coated in the sugar and cinnamon. Evenly sprinkle the apples over the cake layer. Set aside.
Make the crumb topping: In a large bowl, combine the remaining half (1 and 3/4 cups) of the dry ingredients and an additional 1/2 cup of flour. Whisk to combine.
Add in the other stick of butter. Again, cut the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles fine crumbs. Add 4 tablespoons of water and mix. You should be left with a crumbly mixture that sticks together when pinched. If it's too dry, work in more water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until it reaches the right texture.
Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the apple layer. Bake the cake in the center of a preheated 350°F oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until golden brown on top and a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool slightly before slicing.

German Mini Crumb Cake Recipe | How to make a little dessert
A classic German dessert in mini format. Because I can. :D You should give it a try. It might look simple but the taste is beyond simple.
This recipe yields 20 pieces depending on the size you prefer.
Ingredients
Dough
300 gr flour | 2 cups
1 package dry yeast
50 gr sugar | 1/4 cup
1 egg
50 gr butter | 1/4 cup
150 ml warm milk | 3/4 cup
a pinch of salt
Crumbs
360 gr flour | 2 1/2 cup
200 gr butter | 3/4 cup
200 gr sugar | 7/8 cup
a package of vanilla sugar
How to make it
1. Add all the ingredients for the dough into a bowl (but leave about half the flour aside) and just knead it! Gradually add flour until the dough no longer sticks to your hand and bowl anymore, close it off with a wet and clean cloth and let it rest in a warm place for at least half an hour.
2. Make the crumbs by doing pretty much the same but again don’t add all the flour as you might need less flour for your crumbs to get crumbly.
3. Now you can separate the dough into equal pieces. Roll the dough into a ball and press them down onto a baking sheet.
4. When you’re happy with the shape of your mini cakes just add the crumbs onto them. I like to slightly push them in so that they won’t fall off at the first chance.
5. Bake for about 20 minutes at 180 C / 355 F.

Copycat Entenmann's Chocolate Chip Crumb Cake Recipe
This chocolate chip crumb cake recipe is a copycat of the Entenmann's classic.
Growing up on Long Island we always had Entenmann’s Cakes, Cookies and Donuts and still to this day I can’t walk by them in the grocery store without contemplating buying every single one. Its just so nostalgic! If you don’t know the brand, you’re missing out! My favorite one was always Chocolate Chip Crumb Loaf, its moist and fluffy and you get the perfect amount of chocolate chips in every bite. The crumb topping has a hint of cocoa powder and the perfect amount of buttery crunch. You are sure to enjoy this cake for breakfast, dessert or just a snack! I know I will be baking this time and time again! It’s a must!
Please let me know what you think down in the comments below!
Ingredients-
Cake-
1 Stick (1/2 Cup) Unsalted Butter, Softened
1/3 Cup Canola or Vegetable oil
1 1/4 Cups Granulated White sugar
2 Large Eggs
2 Teaspoons Vanilla Extract
1 Cup Sour Cream
2 Cups Cake Flour (NOT self-rising) (I use Swan brand, it comes in a red box)
1/2 Teaspoon Baking Soda
1/2 Teaspoon Baking Powder
3/4 Teaspoon Fine Table Salt
1 1/2 Cups Semi- Sweet Chocolate chips (You can also use Mini Chips too) (Toss the Chips in 1 Tablespoon of Flour just to coat, this prevents them from sinking to the bottom of the cake)

2 Tablespoons Cocoa Powder
1/8 Teaspoon Fine Table Salt
