How To make Surprise Devil's Food Cake
1 3/4 c All-purpose flour
1 1/2 c Granulated sugar
3/4 c Unsweetened cocoa powder
2 ts Baking powder
1/2 ts Baking soda
1 1/3 c Buttermilk
1/2 c Butter or margarine; melted
lg Eggs 2 ts Vanilla extract
2 md Size fresh beets (8 oz)
Peeled & finely Shredded or grated Heat oven to 350 F. Grease a 13x9x2-inch baking dish. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder and baking soda. Whisk in buttermilk, butter, eggs and vanilla. Stir in beets. Pour into prepared dish. Bake 45 minutes, or until a pick inserted in center comes out
clean. Cool in pan on wire rack. Cut in pan. * Serves 12. Per serving: 282 cal, 6 g pro, 45 g car, 10 g fat, 75 mg chol with butter, 54 mg chol with margarine, 267 mg sod. Exchanges: 2 starch/bread, 1 fruit, 2 fat The surprise in this luscious cocoa cake is shredded beets. They enhance the deep reddish-brown color and add moisture. Batman Devil's Food Cake
For National Devil's Food Cake Day, I present a surprise Batman loaf cake. Why Batman? Because of a scene in Young Justice in which he orders a slice of devil's food.
Recipes used (modifications noted in parentheses):
Yellow cake: (I halved the recipe for a 9x9 pan and used almond extract instead of lemon juice and zest)
Devil's food cake: (I halved everything for a loaf pan EXCEPT the milk: I used 1/4 cup milk and 1/4 cup coffee)

Grandma's Devil's Food Cake Recipe
Learn how to make a delicious devil’s food cake. This was one of my grandmothers favorite recipes to make and my mom loved getting them for special occasions. I recreated her recipe from memory with the help of learning about baking ratios. Take a trip down memory lane with our family and make this delicious cake.

Recipe Tips:
* If using a darker pan, reduce temperature 25F (4C) and bake an additional 5 - 10 minutes to prevent over browning.
* Bake 30 – 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Center should read between 190F (88C) and 210F (99C.)
* Over baking chocolate will result in a dry cake. The toothpick method only tells you a cake is done, but it doesn’t tell you it’s overly done. Thermometers are the way to go with chocolate desserts.
Recipes were created by weighing ingredients. For best results, use a scale and not measuring cups. The recipe can be subject to change. Be sure to check website for any alterations.

Betty Crocker Super Moist Favorites Devil's Food Cake Mix
Mix Cake Mix,1 1/4 cup water, 1/2 cup oil. 3 eggs in large bowl with mixer on medium speed or beat vigorously by hand 2 minutes.
Pour into pan.
BAKE AT 350 F. Cool 15 minutes before removing from pan.
Marble Loaf Cake
Chocolate, vanilla, chocolate, vanilla... when you can't decide which flavor you like best, have both!
To assemble the cake-alternate the pattern, spooning vanilla batter over the chocolate and vice versa.
Using a knife, swirl the cocoa batter into the white batter to incorporate it in a marble effect.
