Depression-Era Foods That Are Weirdly Making A Comeback
The Great Depression of the 1930s is not a time in history that we would want to repeat. Unemployment was high, housing prices plummeted, international trade collapsed, and there was a rapid rise in crime rates.
Of course, there were a few positive things that came out of the Great Depression. Great inventions and ideas came out of the era, and the population of the time learned the value of resiliency. One of the areas where creativity and resiliency flourished was in the food people ate.
When there is nothing much to eat, you have to make do with what you have. Here are some Depression-era foods that are weirdly making a comeback.

While this doesn't have that nice crunchy chewy sort of thing going on and while it doesn't have chocolate, this does have an awesome flavor. Even Scott, who doesn't care much for nuts, loves this.
Ingredients
1 14.4 ounce box honey graham crackers
1 cup (2 sticks) butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups slivered almonds or any chopped nuts of your choice
Instructions
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Line a cookie sheet with foil, folding up edges of foil to form a rim to prevent any spill-over from the butter mixture. Lay a single layer of crackers on foil. In a saucepan, melt butter; add sugar and cook until the mixture is thick and bubbly. Spread butter mixture evenly over crackers. Sprinkle nuts evenly over top. Bake for 7 minutes, turn pan and bake for another 7 minutes or until golden brown. Cool slightly and remove from foil. Makes about 26 bars.
