Easy Apple Pie Turnovers
Apple pie turnovers are simple and easy. They can be done in a matter of a few minutes. I serve them up with some ice cream with a drizzle of syrup.
There are a few adjustment to the recipe. For example, we use fresh apple, but you can use apple pie filling. We try to keep the recipe as simple as possible by just using cinnamon. Nutmeg can to used as well.
Give it a try and let us know what you think.
Ingredients:
4 peeled apples of your choice
2 tbsp of unsalted butter
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1 tsp of cinnamon
1 tbsp of water
1 tbsp of corn starch
450 grams of puff pastry
1 beaten egg
1 tbsp of water
2 tsp of granulated sugar
Instructions:
Heat your oven to 400 degrees F or 200 C.
Cut the apples into bite size chunks and remove the cores.
Add the butter to a sauce pan and melt it down.
Put the brown sugar, cinnamon, and water in. Allow it to cook for about 5 minutes.
Place the corn starch in and let it thicken.
Put the mixture in the fridge and let it cool completely.
In the mean time, flour a work surface with some four and place the puff pastry on. Add a bit more flour over the top.
Slice each piece into 4 sections.
Mix the egg and water together.
Brush the edges of each section of pastry with the egg wash.
Place a heaping table spoon or two into the centre and fold one edge over the other until a triangle forms. Push down the edges with your hands.
Place some flour on a fork and, using the fork, seal the edges more.
Put the turnovers on a baking pan lined with a mat or some parchment paper.
Slice about three slits into the top of each one and brush the tops with more egg wash.
Add some granulated sugar over the top.
Place in the oven and allow them to bake for 25 minutes.
Serve and enjoy your apple pie turnovers.

How to Make Apple Turnovers
Hey everybody, and welcome to another episode of Sunday Cooking with Mom and Me. We've already shown everyone how to make a delicious, mouth-watering apple pie, now Mom is gonna show us how to make an astonishing, succulently sweet, apple turnover (I like my adjectives. Can you tell?) Come on and take a look, and as always, make sure to hit those like and subscribe buttons if you haven't already. Enjoy and be blessed!!!
Apple Turnovers
4 Granny Smith Apples
1 tablespoon flour (all-purpose)
1/2 cup sugar
¼ cup brown sugar
1 heaping teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
2 dashes of allspice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon lemon extract
3 tablespoons butter
2 pie crust
Melted butter or beaten egg, for basting
Wash, peel, and cut apples into bit sizes. Place apples in a pot and turn heat on. Add white sugar and light brown sugar, constantly stirring to coat apples with sugar. Stir in the flour. Add the butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, vanilla extract and lemon extract. Give the ingredients a stir to fully incorporate ingredients. Place the lid on the pot for the first minute or two. Remove lid and allow to cook on medium heat for at least seven minutes, until apples are tender. Remove apples from heat and allow to completely cool for at least 30 minutes. Place the pot in a large bowl covered at the bottom with ice to speed up the cooling process, necessary.
Roll the pie crust out on a floured flat surface. Use a small pot lid to cut out circles or a cookie cutter to cut crust into 3 triangles. Place filling in middle of triangle or off centered. Fold crust over and crimp the edges, to prevent spills. Baste with melted butter or egg wash.
Bake in preheated oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes, until golden brown. Place apple turnovers on a cooling rack. After 15 minutes or more, glaze or ice the top.
Allow to cool for at least 15 minutes.
Icing
1 tablespoon evaporated milk
4 tablespoons soften butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup powdered sugar
Add the milk, butter, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar to a bowl and mix well until all ingredients are fully incorporated.

✨ Puff Pastry
1. Chop the cold unsalted butter.
2. In a bowl, put all-purpose flour, salt, and butter, mix all together. Using a scraper, mix like cutting butter until it is pea-sized.
3. Add water, little at a time, knead until came out one dough. Don’t add water at once, add until just combined. Refrigerate for 30 min.
4. When it’s come out of the fridge, lightly dust with flour, and roll into a rectangle shape. Fold in thirds, like a letter. Refrigerate for 10~15min. Repeat this process two times more (3 times in total). In the last fold, refrigerate up to 20 min.
✨ Apple Filling
1. Peel off the apple, and chop finely.
2. In a pot, melt the unsalted butter on medium heat. When butter is completely melted, put chopped apples, and stir for 2 min. Add light brown sugar and cinnamon stick, mix and stir for an additional 2 min. Save 1/8cup of apple juice for later.
3. In water, put starch and mix. Put the starch mixture into the apple mixture, and stir for 2 min until water is dissolved. Turn off the heat, and let it cool until use.
✨ Assembles
1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius(400 Fahrenheit). In a bowl, mix egg and water.
2. Roll the chilled dough for about 0.5cm (0.2inch). And cut it in a round shape with a round cookie cutter or mug. Roll the dough a bit to make an oval shape.
3. Put 1~2tsp of apple filling on the middle of the dough. Water the edge of the dough, and fold in half. Press a bit to prevent leaking.
4. Using chopstick or skewer, make 2~3 holes. Brush the egg wash, and bake for 20~25min in a preheated oven.
5. After bake, brush the saved apple syrup on top of the apple turnover.
