Pumpkin Patch Cake Tutorial
This Pumpkin Patch Cake is a fun and easy Fall cake design. Here are the steps and products detailed:
You Will Need:
A 6-inch cake that’s been crumb coated and chilled
8-inch cake round (I’m using this acrylic one:
1.5 batches of Vanilla Buttercream:
Cake turntable:
Angled spatula:
Icing smoother:
Americolor Wedgewood (for the blue ombre and pumpkins):
Americolor Orange:
Americolor Chocolate Brown:
Piping bags
Wilton tip 4B (x3) (for the small drop pumpkins):
Wilton tip 6B (for the large drop pumpkins):
Wilton tip 10 (for the large piped pumpkins):
Wilton tip 5 (for the large stems):
Wilton tip 3 (for the small stems):
Toasted cake crumbs or cookie crumbs of your choice (Oreos would work great!)
Step 1: Start with a chilled, crumb coated cake (the cake here is a triple layer 6-inch cake) and frost an ombre sky with blue buttercream.
Step 2: Create a landscape using toasted cake crumbs, Oreo cookie crumbs, or any crumb of your choice. Simply press them onto the frosting around the bottom edge of the cake and sprinkle them on the top as well.
Step 3: Pipe the large pumpkins using a series of curved lines with Wilton tip 10 wherever you'd like.
Step 4: Pipe the drop pumpkins with Wilton Tips 4B for the smaller pumpkins and 6B for the larger pumpkins to fill in the empty spaces around the bottom edge and on the top half of the cake. The color scheme for these is Americolor Orange, Wedgewood, and plain white buttercream.
Step 5: Pipe all the stems. I used Wilton tip 5 for the giant piped pumpkin stems and Wilton tip 3 for the rest of the pumpkin stems.
