The dish takes its name from the hinged metal vessel it’s traditionally cooked in, and the broth picks up plenty of briny seafood flavor from shrimp, squid, and mussels. Caldeirada De Peixe Recipe - Easy Portuguese Fish Stew Recipe
Easy recipe for the popular Portuguese fish stew Caldeirada de peixe.
This dish varies from region to region and is also popular in Galicia, the north west region of Spain.Normally the dish has a fifty-fifty mix of oily and lean fish. Recipe below.
For 4 People
1 to 1.5kg of mixed fish (mackerel, swordfish, tuna, cod, monkfish, conger eel, red gunyard, sea bass, sea bream, hake, flounder, haddock, ray, squid, octopus etc)
600g clams or mussels
750g Red king prawns or 3-4 per person
4 large potatoes
2 large onions
3 large tomatoes
1 large red capsicum
1 large yellow capsicum
5 cloves garlic
6 tblsp xv olive oil
300ml white wine
bunch parsley or coriander
2 tins chopped tomatoes pulsed in a blender
2 tsp paprika
1/2 to 1 cup of water
Salt and Pepper to taste
Crusty Bread to serve
