Grease bottom and sides of a 15- x 10- x 1-inch jellyroll pan with vegetable oil; line with wax paper, and grease wax paper with oil. Set pan aside. Beat egg yolks in a large bowl at high speed of an electric mixer until thick and lemon colored; stir in vanilla, and set aside. Beat egg whites until foamy; add cream of tartar and salt, beating until stiff but not dry. Fold in 3/4 cup powdered sugar. Fold whites into yolk mixture. Gradually fold flour into egg mixture. Spread batter evenly into prepared pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes. Sift 1 to 2 tablespoon powdered sugar in a 15- x 10-inch rectangle on a cloth towel. When cake is done, immediately loosen from sides of pan, and turn out onto sugared towel. Peel off wax paper. Starting at narrow end, roll up cake and towel together; let cool completely on a wire rack, seam side down. Combine sliced strawberries and 2 tablespoons sugar; set aside. Beat whipping cream until foamy; gradually add 3 tablespoons sugar, beating until soft peaks form. Unroll cake. Spread cake with sliced strawberries and half of whipped cream; reroll cake, without towel. Place on serving plate, seam side down; spread remaining whipped cream on all sides. Garnish with whole strawberries, if servings. -----

30 MINUTE PREP Japanese Swiss Roll Cake! (STRAWBERRIES & CREAM)
In this video, I'll be showing you how to make Japanese Swiss Roll Cake. A spongy cake layer with fresh strawberries and cream, this recipe is light and delightful!
Makes 8 servings
Cake:
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
3 tbsp. corn starch
1/4 tsp. baking powder
3 large eggs, whites and yolks separated, room temperature
1/2 cup granulated sugar
3 tbsp. vegetable oil
2 tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Filling:
1/2 cup whipping cream (35% M.F or higher)
2 tbsp. powdered sugar
1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
5–6 strawberries, chopped
INSTRUCTIONS
Cake:
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9 x 13 inch rectangular pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.
Sift the flour, corn starch and baking powder in a medium bowl.
Separate the yolks from the egg whites and place in 2 different bowls, make sure there is no yolk in the egg whites (it won’t properly whip up if there is any fat or oil). For easy separation, use your hand to hold the yolk while you let the egg whites drip.
In a large bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, 1/4 cup sugar, oil, milk, and vanilla until pale yellow and frothy (3 minutes).
Mix in the dry ingredients until combined. Set aside.
Make sure your beaters and bowl are clean and free from any oil or fat. Use a stainless steel bowl to beat the egg whites and 1/4 sugar until stiff peaks form (4-5 minutes), when u lift the beaters the peaks should hold its shape. Do not use a plastic bowl.
Fold in 1/3 of the egg whites into the yolk mixture, keep repeating until fully incorporated.
Pour and evenly spread into the lined baking pan, tap the pan to remove the air bubbles.
Bake for 13 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Cool on the pan for 10 minutes, then flip the cake over onto a new sheet of parchment paper. Remove the old paper on top.
Roll the cake into a log so that the parchment paper is under the cake and is in between the folds. Refrigerate for 30 minutes or until cooled.
Filling:
After chilled, slice the strawberries into small chunks. Set aside.
Beat the whipping cream, powdered sugar and vanilla until stiff peaks form (the cream should hold its shape on the beaters).
Gently unwrap the cake roll. Spread the cream on top of the cake, sprinkle with the chopped strawberries, then roll into a log.
Dust the top with a little powdered sugar. (You can eat right away or refrigerate it for 2 hours for the best taste).
I hope you enjoy (:
