How to make No-Bake Tuna Mac and Cheese
How about levelling up your favorite pasta dish? Here’s how to make No-Bake Tuna Mac and Cheese!
Tuna Mac and Cheese Recipe
Hi Guys, today I’ll show you How to Make a Quick and Easy Dinner - Homemade Tuna Mac and Cheese. Now this doesn’t have to come out of a box, you can make it from scratch with very little effort and just a few ingredients you already have in the kitchen. I will put all the ingredients and measurements in the description below.
We’ll need 2 tablespoons of butter and 2 tablespoons of all purpose flour, mustard and hot sauce. I use brown mustard and Frank’s red hot sauce. One 5 ounce can of white tuna drained, this is 4 ounces of tuna after it’s drained. 7 ounces of elbow macaroni, you can substitute another type of small size pasta if you like. 8 ounces of shredded sharp cheddar cheese. To get a smooth sauce, it’s best to take an 8 ounce block of cheddar and shred it yourself. The already shredded cheese you buy in the store might be coated with ingredients that affect the texture of the sauce. We also need 1 1/2 cups of whole milk and salt and black pepper.
Milk 1 1/2 cup - 350ml
Pasta 7 ounces - 200g
Cheddar Cheese 8 ounces - 220g
Tuna 4 ounces - 110g
Butter - 2 tablespoons
All purpose flour - 2 tablespoons
Ground Black Pepper - ¼ teaspoon
Mustard - 1.5 teaspoons plus more to taste
Hot Sauce - 1 teaspoon plus more to taste
Salt ½ tsp plus more to taste
First put on water to cook the pasta. If you want to sneak some vegetables in here for your picky kids, add some finely chopped broccoli or shredded carrots to the pasta right before you drain it. I just shred the carrots on the large holes of my box grater.
Once the water boils, add a teaspoon of salt and the pasta. Give it a stir and cook until tender, this takes about 7 minutes for these elbow macaroni. While the pasta cooks, we’ll make the sauce. Heat up a pan on medium and add the butter and flour. Stir and cook for 2 minutes or until the flour loses its raw flavor, you’ll know when it smells nutty. While stirring add a little bit of the milk, now add in the rest of the milk. Once it comes to a boil and thickens like this, turn off the heat. Add the cheese and stir until smooth. As you can see the sauce is thick, smooth and creamy. Add the tuna, hot sauce and mustard. Add the drained pasta in and mix well. Taste and add ½ tsp salt and ¼ tsp ground black pepper. Adjust the salt according to your taste. I’ll add a bit more hot sauce. You can add more mustard or hot sauce if you like. Mustard goes really well in this dish so adding a bit more doesn’t hurt. The thick sauce coats the macaroni and gives you a rich, cheesy dish. Chopped scallions add a nice crunch and is a great addition to this tuna mac and cheese. I do hope you give this a try as you can make it in 20 minutes. Don’t forget to subscribe and I’ll see you next time. Thanks for watching :)
