My Navy Bean Soup recipe as I discuss how to get a traffic ticket dismissed due to a ticket error
Recipe as follows:
1 pound dry navy beans
Ham bone / ham scraps / ham hock
1 table spoon of olive oil
1 large onion (chopped)
2 chopped carrots
2 chopped celery stalks
6 minced garlic cloves
1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
10 cups of water or chicken broth
Salt and pepper to taste
Soak dried beans for up to 24 hours. They will absorb the water and expand.
Using a 6 quart stock pot, add oil, ham / onions / carrots / celery / garlic. Saute 3 - 5 minutes (until onions are soft)
Add in beans / thyme / cumin / crushed red pepper flakes / water or broth & any ham scraps.
Bring to boil and then lower heat to a simmer for 60 - 90 minutes until the beans are soft.
If you want the soup a thinner consistency, add more water or broth
After finished, salt and pepper to taste. Can also add Pecorino Romano cheese when finished
White bean stew | Fasûlî | cooking my roots
Kurdish white bean stew is a classic. Few things can compete with this comforting stew served with white rice, pan fried chicken and a side of a classic Kurdish salad. I made the stew without meat, but you can of course add meat to your stew, and if you'd like me to make this stew with meat let me know and I would love to share that recipe with you as well. I personally like to leave the meat out of many of the stews, because I don't think it compromises on the flavor. And you can easily enhance flavors by using vegetable/chicken/beef stock/bullion. In this one I've kept the recipe super simple, and you can switch it up any way you like to.
It's really simple to make, somewhat time consuming if you use dried beans. But you can cut the cooking time by a lot if you use canned beans instead.
Ingredients 6 servings
400 g dried white beans
1,5 l water (overnight soaking)
1 dl tomato paste (6-7 tbsp)
1 medium onion
1 chili pepper
3 tbs olive oil
1 pinch turmeric
salt and black pepper to taste
