How To make Short Pastry Crust
Servings: 8 1 c Flour,all-purpose
1 pn Salt
4 T Butter,unsalted,cut/bits
1 1/2 T Vegetable shortening,solid
3 T Water,cold
Sift the flour and salt together into a large bowl. With 2 knives or a pastry blender, cut in the butter and shortening until mixture is the texture of coarse crumbs. Add only enough water to make a soft dough. Form into a ball, wrap in wax paper and chill for at least 1 hour. -----

How to make The Best Shortcrust Pastry AND Blind Bake a Pie/Tart Shell | Cupcake Jemma
There are lots of different kinds of pastries out there and for each type there are hundreds of slightly different ways to do it. Shortcrust is my favourite of all time. A 'Short' pastry should be sturdy enough to hold a filling, but light, snappy and slightly crumbly too so it melts in your mouth. This is my FAIL-SAFE Shortcrust Pastry recipe, plus a demo on how to 'Blind Bake' at tart or pie shell so that you can fill it with yummy stuff!

225g plain flour
2 tbsp icing sugar
150g very cold unsalted butter
pinch of salt
3 tbsp ice-cold water

5 ingredient perfect tart crust recipe | baking basics

Makes (2) 9 tart shells
INGREDIENTS:
4 oz/ ½ cup powdered sugar
8 oz/1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
1 egg
pinch of salt
12oz/1.5 cups all purpose flour
DIRECTIONS:
1. Cream together butter and sugar.
2. Add in egg, lemon zest, and vanilla.
3. Paddle in salt and flour.
4. Refrigerate dough for 30 min.-1 hour
5. Roll out dough to 1/4 thickness and line tart pan.
6. Freeze lined tart for 30 min.
7. Dock tart base.
8. Blind bake at 350F for 10 minutes. Remove pie weights then bake for another 5 minutes.
9. Cool completely

SHORTCRUST PASTRY RECIPE
Ingredients
1⅔ Cup | 200g Flour
½ tsp Salt
2-3 Tbsp Sugar (optional)
½ Cup | 1 Stick | 115g Butter
2-3 Tbsp Ice Water
Instructions
Add the flour, salt and sugar if using to a large mixing bowl.
Cut the butter into small cubes and add to the mixing bowl.
Use clean dry hands to rub the butter into the flour until it resembled sand.
Spoon in a few tablespoons of ice water and mix the pastry with a knife.
Form the dough into a ball and knead for 30 seconds on a floured surface until smooth.
Wrap the pastry in plastic wrap and place in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to rest.
When you are ready to roll out the pastry, remove it from the fridge and leave for 5-10 minutes to warm up before rolling out.
Place the pastry back in the fridge for 20-30 minutes before baking at 200 C | 400 F
Notes
Butter can be replaced with shortening or lard.
After kneading the pastry can be placed in the fridge for a week or freezer for 3 months.
