These are reputedly of French origin. Whether they are or not, they are tres bien!
1 cup + 2 Tbsp. all purpose flour
1/3 c. sugar
1/2 c. softened butter
1 egg yolk
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
Garnishes
Mix flour and sugar. Add butter and mix until coarse crumbs are formed. Add egg yolk and vanilla and mix with the fingers or a pastry blender until dough holds together. Form into a ball and place in the refrigerator 20 minutes or until stiff enough to handle.
Using a measuring half teaspoon, put pieces of dough one inch apart on cookie sheet, then shape into balls with floured palms. Make an indentation in the center of each ball with the little finger but do not punch all the way to the pan.
Press one of the garnishes suggested below into the small hole. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and loosen cookies with a spatula. Let remain in pans until at room temperature. Store in airtight container at room temp or in the freezer.
Yield: Approximately 25-26 cookies.
Garnishes: Crystalized cherries cut in quarters, stiff jam or jelly (seeded black or red raspberry jam is delicious), bits of candided ginger, tiny cubs of candied orange or lemon peel or citron, semi sweet chocolate pieces, almond halves......

Thumbprint Cookies | Preppy Kitchen
Thumbprint cookies are the original no stress ready in a snap cookie. The bright colored jam filling reminds me of Autumn leaves and Christmas ornaments. I made these with a drizzle glaze but you can use chocolate, nuts or coconut flakes just as easily. Let me know which one you prefer!
I love that these cookies can be made with little ones, as long as they have extra clean hands! Some people will use a teaspoon to press the indent into the cookie but I think it's called a thumbprint cookie for a reason. The recipe for the sugar cookie base is super versatile by the way, also great for cut out cookies!

Easy Thumbprint Jewel Apricot Walnut Cookies
These are one of my favorite cookies to bake , inspired by McCall's Cookie Collection these cookies are beautiful looking and so delicious! I doubled their recipe and added 1/4 cup of confectioners sugar, which I feel gives the cookie a more melt in your mouth texture. I find mixing everything in the processor incorporates all the ingredients better than mixing the batter by hand , just don't over process . This recipe will yield approximately 24 Yummy cookies .

Cookie that look like jewels The Coricheddos of Sardinia
The video shows the preparation of coricheddos by Elisabetta Farchi who is a master of this art, the heart-shaped Sardinian sweets, leads us to the discovery of one of the most appreciated specialties of the Sardinian culinary tradition. It is a crunchy and light dessert, with an intense aroma and unmistakable flavour, which represents a symbol of Sardinian confectionery art and tradition. Sweets that look like jewels, they are usually given to spouses at weddings or on important occasions, unique in their kind and characteristic for the shapes and the detail of the details, with lace decorations and flowers.
Sardinian desserts such as coricheddos, decorated with skill by Elisabetta, are a real work of art that makes the difference on any table. Furthermore, they are ideal as wedding gifts or as favors for guests, to be customized according to your needs and tastes.
The preparation of the coricheddos requires attention and skill, since the shape of the sweets must be created with a special mold and the cutting of the dough must be precise and delicate. Furthermore, to obtain the right balance between the crunchiness of the surface and the softness of the inside, cooking must be done with care, in order to obtain a perfectly golden and crunchy dessert.
Thanks to the passion and creativity of artisans such as Elisabetta Farchi, the coricheddos become real works of art, embellished with unique decorations and details. Each coricheddos is different from the other and represents a personal interpretation of the Sardinian culinary tradition.
