Bartender John Jeide Makes Irish Coffees at the Buena Vista Cafe in San Francisco
Make your own Irish coffee with this recipe: 1) Fill glass with hot water to heat it up, then dump out the water. 2) Drop in two cocktail sugar cubes. 3) Pour hot coffee over the sugar cubes, to fill about 3/4s of the glass. 4) Stir until the sugar is dissolved and mixed. 5) Add Irish whiskey with a bit of room left in the glass. 6) Spoon heavy, cold cream on top.

The History of Irish coffee ☘️ Inspired by Joseph at Buena Vista in San Fransisco:
During the 1940s, Foynes Airport in Ireland was one of Europe’s biggest. It was the main airport for Flying Boats and regularly received passengers from the U.S., including Hollywood stars and important political figures.
A new restaurant was opened to cater to these guests.
Joe Sheridan, a young chef, was in charge of the restaurant. As the weather during this time of year can be cold and blistery, Joe decided to create a drink that would warm his guests up, and that drink is the famous Irish Coffee.
The story goes that when an American passenger first drank it he asked “Is this Brazilian coffee?” in which Joe replied “No, that’s Irish coffee”.
Irish Coffee became a huge success and an airport specialty. In 1952, after the war, Irish Coffee was introduced to the United States, by travel writer, Stanton Delaplane.
He brought it to the attention of Jack Koeppler, a bartender at the Buena Vista Hotel in San Francisco and persuaded him to recreate it.
The cream kept sinking when Koeppler tried to make the drink, so he traveled to the source, Chef Joe Sheridan in Limerick, Ireland to learn the correct way to make this delicious coffee.
Now, it’s one of the most famous coffee cocktails in the world, and definitely one of the most delicious!

INGREDIENTS: - 4 oz hot coffee - 2 oz Irish whiskey - 2 oz heavy cream - 1 tsp dark brown sugar or demerara syrup
DIRECTIONS 1. Heat treat the glass with hot water. This is simply adding hot water to the cocktail glass so that it does not leach heat from the cocktail. 2. Prepare your hot coffee. 3. Whip some heavy cream so that it begins to thicken - to the point where it can stay as a drop on your finger. We don't want whipped cream, but we also dont want straight cream - we want somewhere in between. 4. Empty the hot water from the glass. 5. Add the sugar or syrup to the glass and add about an ounce of hot coffee. Then, using a bar spoon, stir until the sugar has dissolved into the coffee. 6. Add the whiskey. 7. Continue to add coffee until you have a gap about an 1/2.5 cm from the top, stirring as you go. 8. Add the cream to the top by means of a squeeze bottle, or by pouring it over the back of a spoon so that it slowly pours into the top of the cocktail. 9. Serve and enjoy!
