Final Words Before Execution: Episode 41
Carlos DeLuna, was convicted of murder of Wanda Lopez, a 24-year-old gas station attendant in Corpus Christi, TX, on the evening of February 4, 1983. He was executed by lethal injection by the state of Texas on Dec 7, 1989. His case has been surrounded by controversy and doubts about his guilt. Inconsistencies in evidence and the credibility of key witnesses, suggest that DeLuna may have been wrongfully convicted.
Columbia law professor, Jim Liebman and his team conducted a re-investigation into Mr. DeLuna's case, which resulted in their book The Wrong Carlos, an article in the Columbia Human Rights Law Review, and online documentation.
The Phantom, a 2021 American documentary film written and directed by Patrick Forbes, sheds light on his protests of innocence and the potential involvement of the other Carlos, Carlos Hernandez in the murder of Wanda Lopez. The documentary also highlights the flaws and biases within the United States' criminal legal system, particularly its disadvantages for the Latinx community and those living in poverty.

National Champion Chili Recipe (2018)
This chili recipe is a World Champion Chili Recipe from the 2017 Terlingua Chili Cook-Off. This is the championship-winning recipe from Brent Allen. In the video, we show you how to make a competition style chili (which doesn't allow for fresh ingredients) but we do not follow the recipe to a T, so please check out Brent Allen's competition-winning chili recipe here:
All of the world champion recipes are also posted on the Chili Appreciation Society Appreciation website.
There are several different ways to make a red chili recipe and this is a competition championship chili recipe so it does not include many of those raw ingredients found in a home version of the traditional comfort food chili recipe such as onions or peppers. In competition, you can't add raw ingredients so you must use powders. If you want to try this at home -- which I recommend because it is DELICIOUS -- you can buy all of the chili powders I named online.

Boiling Alive - History's Most BRUTAL Execution Method?
Throughout History there have been many different execution methods used to take the lives of prisoners or the condemned. Some of the most brutal were carried out during the reign of notorious Tudor King Henry VIII, and one of the most shocking took place during his reign. Boiling Alive was one of the most sickening and brutal methods used, and it was noted for being horrifying for the crowds that flocked to witnessed the executions. Boiling was used as an execution method in many different countries including Scotland, England, Germany, India and Japan and it was done in different ways. Some condemned people were put in a pot of cold liquid before they were slowly roasted, but others were dunked in and out of a cauldron of boiling liquid a number of times.
Executioners sometimes used oil and not even water, but one of the most brutal boiling alive executions took place during the reign of Henry VIII. Richard Roose was the cook of Bishop John Fisher, and he poisoned the porridge of the Bishop in an attempt to kill Fisher. Because he was a cook, the Tudor King then changed the treason laws to allow poisoning to carry the execution method of boiling alive. When Roose was lowered in and out of the boiling pot, crowds gasped in horror and it was said that many wished the axeman was used instead to execute that day. But boiling alive was a brutal method of execution that has been used rarely in History.
