Cheese and onion pasties are a popular British snack, perfect for teatime. It can be easily made at home, using only a small handful of ingredients.
Ingredients:
Butter (50g)
Onions (3, medium-sized)
Potatoes (2 large, boiled)
Mozzarella cheese (100g)
Salt (1 tsp)
Black Pepper (1 tsp)
Egg (1)
Puff Pastry (homemade or readymade)
Method:
1) Add 50g of butter to a pan and melt.
2) Add onions to the pan and fry on medium heat until golden brown. Make sure they don't turn too dark or burn.
3) Mash the potatoes well using a fork or a masher.
4) Add the fried onions to the mashed potatoes.
5) Add the cheese and stir well combined and the cheese has melted.
6) Add salt and black pepper. Stir well.
7) Beat egg well.
8) Roll out puff pastry sheets, and cut in half as shown.
9) Add filling to the middle of the pastry as shown. Don't cover the edges.
10) Brush egg wash onto the other piece of puff pastry.
11) Assemble as shown.
12) Use a fork to close the pasties, while making a pattern at the same time.
13) Make any pattern of your choice on the top of the pasties if you want, using a sharp knife. Make sure to not cut too deep into the pastry so the filling is visible.
14) Brush egg wash over the pasties. This will give them a lovely golden colour when baked.
15) Bake at 170c for 15 minutes.

Gregg's style cheese and onion pasties
Hi everyone, hope your doing really well. Today i thought of making a very easy and simple recipe. I have been craving Greggs cheese and onions pasties but as the bakery has been closed for the last 10 weeks I decided to make some from home. This recipe is so easy and much better to make from home as you can add whatever filling you like according to your taste. You can even go ahead and make an extra batch to keep in the freezer for a rainy day.
So hope you enjoy.
Ingredients
1 packet ready to roll puff pastry
1 medium potatoes diced small
1 medium onion
220g / 8oz Cheddar Cheese
1 egg or milk for spreading before baking
Salt and pepper to taste
Method
Chop and boil the potato into small chunks. Add the onion finely chopped and grate the cheese.
Mix all the ingredients together well in a bowl with salt, pepper and chilli sauce..
Divide the pastry in 4 and roll each piece into a round about 15 cm (6 inches) in diameter.
Put a quarter of the cheese mixture on each one, dampen the edge with a little water, then fold over and crimp the edges.
Lay the pasties on a floured baking sheet and brush them with milk or beaten egg.
Bake them for 20 minutes.
*Coleslaw*
Ingredients
1 cup shredded cabbage
½ cup shredded carrots
Salt, pepper and sugar to taste
2 tbs greek yogurt
1 tbs light mayonnaise
Method
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and serve as a side with your pastie.
