This recipe is a classic for a reason: a no-fuss dessert with a rich and smooth filling in a tender, flaky crust. It's also perfect for making ahead! There are a lot of thanksgiving recipes that I get questions about but homemade pumpkin pie from scratch is at the top of the list so I made a new video with all my tips and tricks as well as a test of two different paking methods! Apple Butter and Maple Syrup Pumpkin Pie with Pecan Crusted Streusel Topping
1 c Pumpkin puree
1 c Apple butter
1/4 c pure maple syrup
1/4 c packed dark brown sugar
1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
1/4 tsp salt
3 eggs, beaten
1 c evaporated milk
Pour all of the above and mix with stand mixer or hand mixer or by hand till well combined.
Pour into prepared pie crust. (Use my buttery Award Winning Blue Prize Winning Crust, see below)
Bake at 375 for 50 to 60 min. Keep an eye on it. Don’t let your crust get too brown. If it does use foil to cover the crusts.
Now make your Streusel Topping
3 T cold butter, cut into small pieces
1/2 c packed brown sugar
1/2 c flour
Mix well but gently, use a pastry blender or your hand. Crumble mixture till it has the consistency of corn meal.
Then add
1/2 c chopped pecans and mix together
When pie comes out of oven and while hot, add the streusel topping and return to oven for 15 min. Do Not Let Crust Edges Get Too Brown. Cover with foil or a pie crust cover.
Allow to cool completely before serving. We like ours with a scoop of Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. Enjoy!!! (I really mean it) Lord bless, Darlene
PIE CRUST
1-1/4 c flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 c chilled butter, diced up
Combine dry ingredients with pastry cutter. Stir in cold water tsp by tsp till crust holds together. Form into ball and flatten gently keeping in a round disk shape. Refridgerate or freeze. Completely defrost for use.

Brown Sugar Maple Pumpkin Pie recipe
Sweetened with brown sugar and maple syrup, this is one silky-smooth, perfectly spiced, from scratch pumpkin pie

Ingredients:
1-1/2 cups Pumpkin Puree (canned or roasted)
3/4 cup packed Dark Brown Sugar
1-1/4 teaspoon ground Cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon ground Ginger
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly grated Nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon ground Clove
1/8 teaspoon ground Allspice
1 teaspoon cornstarch
1 cup Half & Half or Heavy Cream
2/3 cup Real Maple Syrup
1/2 teaspoon pure Vanilla Extract
3 large Eggs, lightly beaten
1 (9-inch) pie crust (try my traditional crust, chocolate or pecan whole wheat)

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a large mixing bowl combine pumpkin, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, ginger, nutmeg, clove, allspice and cornstarch.
Pour in half & half, syrup, vanilla and the beaten eggs. Whisk to combine and pour into prepared pie shell.
Bake in the lower third of your oven for 1 hour or until the center of the pie is set. Cool completely before slicing and serving.
I like this pie with a dollop of homemade whipped cream and sprinkled with chopped pecans, alongside a cup of coffee.

Today (2023) making a maple sugar pie requires a 2nd mortgage on your house... but in 1915 Canada maple sugar was relatively inexpensive and abundant. This is essentially a sugar pie - just maple sugar pie; it's also a custard pie, a maple custard pie.
Maple Sugar Pie
Heat one and one-half cups of milk in a double boiler and add one cup of maple sugar broken fine or grated. Bring to the boiling point, add two rounding teaspoons cornstarch mixed, with one-half cup milk and cook eight minutes. Pour a little over the yolks of two eggs and stir and return to boiler and cook until smooth. Pour into a paste-lined plate and bake.
Cover with meringue made of the whites of two eggs beaten stiff with one-quarter cup powdered sugar and brown.
