Irish Brown Soda Bread
Chris’s Irish Brown Soda Bread
250g / 2 cups Plain Flour 200g / 1 ¾ cups Whole-wheat Flour 1 tsp Baking Soda (Bicarbonate) 1 tsp Baking Powder ¾ tsp of salt 40g / 3 tbsp Softened Butter 2 tsp Honey 450ml / 1 ¾ cup
For a sourmilk buttermilk substitute add 2 tbsp of vinegar or lemon juice to some regular milk. Stir then let it stand for about 10 minutes before adding to the bowl
You can also add oats to this and play around with the flour ratios. If you prefer to use more whole-wheat then add an extra drop of buttermilk. The baking powder can be left out. I added this to make the crumb a bit lighter
