How To make Basbousa Bil Laban Zabadi (Basbousa with Yogurt)
1 c Sugar
1/3 c Water
1/2 Lemon (juice only)
1/2 lb Unsalted butter
1/3 c Blanched almonds
1/2 c Yogurt
3/4 c Sugar
1 c Semolina
1 ts Baking powder
Few drops vanilla extract Whipped cream Make a thick syrup by boiling the sugar, water and lemon juice together and simmering until it thickens. Allow to cool and chill. Melt half of the unsalted butter. Toast the blanched almonds and chop them finely. Beat the yogurt with the sugar in a large mixing bowl. Add melted butter and all remaining ingredients except the cream, and beat well until thoroughly mixed. Pour into a large rectangular buttered baking tray and bake in a 400 degree oven for 30 min. Pour the cold syrup immediately over the hot basbousa as soon as it comes out of the oven. Cut into lozenge shapes and return to the oven for 3 more minutes. Basbousa (Egyptian Semolina Cake)
Babousa is a semolina cake soaked in simple syrup . Authentic Egyptian basbousa recipe that is soft and stays soft. A delicious coconut, yogurt and semolina/farina cake that gets sprinkled with nuts and drizzled with syrup to put the final seal of perfection.

Ingredients:
▢ 1 2/3 cup (306g) Farina.
▢ 1/2 cup ghee.
▢ 1 Tablespoon honey.
▢ 1/2 cup (116g) sugar.
▢ 1/2 cup (97g) plain yogurt.
▢ 1/2 Tablespoon (6g) baking powder.
▢ 1/2 cup (45g) unsweetened coconut flakes finely shredded.
▢ 0.5 Tablespoon tahini. plus 1 Tablespoon ghee to brush the bottom.
For the syrup:
▢ 1 cup sugar.
▢ 1 cup water.
▢ 1 teaspoon lemon juice.
▢ 2 Tablespoon honey.
▢ 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract.
▢ Nuts for garnishing
Instructions
Heat oven to 350F.
Make the cake:
In a deep bowl, combine farina, baking powder, sugar and coconut then mix well.
Melt the ghee in the microwave or stove top then dissolve the honey in it.
Add the ghee mixture to the bowl of dry ingredients and mix well to combine.
Add the yogurt and mix, just until everything is well incorporated.
Brush a round 12 inch baking sheet with the tahini and spread the basbousa mixture evenly.
Spread nuts on top evenly to decorate.
Bake in the middle of your oven until edges start to brown, this took about 10 minutes. Then move the basbousa up to the higher shelf and let it continue cooking until golden brown will take anywhere from 15 to 20 minutes.
Make the syrup:
When you move the basbousa to the upper shelf start making the syrup.
In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine syrup ingredients and bring to a boil.
When it boils, reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
Turn heat off and keep the syrup warm.
When basbousa is done, turn off your oven and take it out.
Pour the syrup evenly and cover the basbousa immediately with foil. Return to the TURNED OFF oven for 5-10 minutes.
Take it out, cut and enjoy

In our Basbousa Recipe, we have added coconut and a subtle rose flavour in the sugar syrup which gives it a very aromatic and flavourful texture.
For the Basbousa Recipe with Yogurt and Coconut, you will need:
3 eggs
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1.5 cups semolina (we used coarse)
1 cup yogurt
1/2 cup desiccated coconut
1/2 cup melted butter
1/2 all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
optional: zest of a lemon
almond halves
Bake at 180c for 25-30 minutes until golden
For the Basbousa Sugar Syrup:
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp rose water

1 Tbsp baking powder
A pinch of salt
½ Cup sugar
1 Cup melted unsalted butter
½ Cup coconut flakes
2 Eggs
½ Cup table cream
1 Cup milk
For the cream:
4 Cups whole milk (1L)
½ cup Cornstarch
2 Tbsp sugar
8 Oz cream cheese
1 Tsp vanilla extract
½ Cup table cream
For the syrup:
1 Cup water
1 Cup sugar
Lemon juice (half lemon)
1 Tsp Orange blossom water
Garnish with any kind of nuts you have and enjoyyyyy!
