How To make Candy Cane Bread
2 c Flour
1/4 c Packed brown sugar
2 ts Baking powder
1/2 ts Salt
1/2 c Margarine
1/4 c Chopped nuts
1 Egg, beaten
1/2 c Milk
Red and Green decorator -Icing (optional) Powdered sugar for icing
Grease a cookie sheet and set aside. Stir together flour, brown sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut in margarine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add the nuts. Combine the egg and milk. Stir into the flour mixture just til moistened. On a lightly floured surface, pat dough into a 10 x 7" rectangle. Cut crosswise into 1" wide strips. Twist each strip by holding both ends. Bend 1 end to form candy cane shape. Place candy canes several inches apart on cookie sheet. Bake in a 425F oven for 10 minutes or til light brown. Carefully remove to a wire rack to cool. Frost with decorator icing or with powdered sugar icing. Makes 10 candy canes. Powdered Sugar Icing In a small bowl combine 2 cups powdered sugar and enough milk to make of drizzling consistency (about 3 tb) Drizzle over cooled candy canes.

1 box white cake mix, Betty Crocker SuperMoist
½ tsp red food color
½ tsp peppermint extract
For White Icing:
2 cups powdered sugar
2 tbsp milk, or water
½ tsp vanilla, if desired
For Decoration:
Candy canes, or hard peppermint candies, crushed

0:22 Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F then generously grease your baking pan.
0:28 Make the cake batter as directed in the package instruction. Pour ⅓ cup of the mixture into the baking pan and bake for 5 to 7 minutes.
0:40 Into a small bowl, pour another ⅓ cup of the batter; stir in the food color and the peppermint extract.
0:47 Carefully pour the pink batter over the baked white batter and bake again for roughly 3 minutes or until stable.
0:54 Carefully pour the remaining ⅓ cup of white batter over the pink batter. This is to create a thin layer of coloring at the center of the cake when you slice through.
0:56 Bake the cake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
1:00 In a small bowl, mix the icing ingredients. If necessary, stir in additional milk, 1 teaspoon at a time, until smooth and spreadable.
1:08 Cool for 10 minutes then turn the pan upside down onto a cooling rack or heatproof serving plate. Cool the cake completely for about 15 minutes.

Ingredients:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 eggs
- 1/3 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon dry yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/4 cup milk (or a mix of milk and water)
- 3 tablespoons softened butter
- 3 tablespoons cocoa powder (for half of the dough)
- Chocolate chips for filling
Instructions:
1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour,yeast , sugar, and salt. Mix well.
2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk (or milk-water mixture) until well combined.
3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
4. Add the softened butter to the dough and knead for about 5-7 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.
5. Divide the dough into two equal portions.
6. In one portion of the dough, add the cocoa powder and knead until the cocoa is fully incorporated, creating a chocolate dough.
7. Cover both portions of the dough with plastic wrap and let them rest for about 1 hour at room temperature.
8. After the resting period, take one portion of the dough and roll it out into a rectangular shape on a lightly floured surface.
9. Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the rolled-out dough.
10. Take the other portion of the dough and roll it out into a rectangular shape of the same size as the first portion.
11. Place the second portion of the dough on top of the first portion with the chocolate chips, creating a sandwich-like structure.
12. Gently press the edges of the dough together to seal them.
13. Using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter, cut the dough lengthwise into strips, leaving about 1 inch of uncut dough at the top.
14. Twist each strip of dough, alternating the direction of the twist, to create a twisted effect.
15. Place the twisted bread on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
16. Cover the twisted bread with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
17. The next morning, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
18. Remove the twisted bread from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to warm up slightly.
19. Bake the twisted bread in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until it turns golden brown.
but instead of cocoa, I used beetroot powder. Alternatively, you can use red berry powder or red food coloring. Instead of chocolate filling, I used mixed berry jam.
For the icing at the end, mix one cup of powdered sugar with a tablespoon of milk. Gradually add the milk to achieve a thick consistency and a white color.
